Peeling Nails?

In the past one or two months my nails have begun peeling like crazy and I don't know why. My diet hasn't really changed in the past year, and my other habits are pretty much the same too. I've tried using strengthener and hardener, but nothing seems to work and they keep peeling.

This has never happened to me before ... what can I do so they stop peeling?Peeling Nails?
Onychorrhexis are brittle nails which often split vertically, peel and/or have vertical ridges. This irregularity can be the result of heredity, the use of strong solvents in the workplace or the home, including household cleaning solutions. Although oil or paraffin treatments will re-hydrate the nail plate, one may wish to confer with a physician to rule out disease.Peeling Nails?
If your hands are in water a lot, and if you have ruled out nail fungus, then use a good nail polish, a good couple of coats to cover the nails and protect them. Wear gloves when doing dishes, or other wet work. This will help a great deal.

How do i peel my 4 day old nails?

i was told not to clip but peel, i have a hard time doing that because he moves so much..could you tell me a technique i could use?How do i peel my 4 day old nails?
I don't understand why you can't clip them, but a file should work.

..How do you BITE a babies nails..?How do i peel my 4 day old nails?
I was too scared to do anything with his nails when Lukas was newborn. We just kept scratch mitts on.

After a couple of weeks I was brave enough to clip them with nail clippers (while he was sleeping... that's the easiest and safest way).

I think the advice is different depending on where you are and who it's from, but I've heard you should nibble them and also that you shouldn't nibble them or peel them as there have been cases where parents accidentally rip off the whole nail! Likewise, with clippers you're less likely to rip off the nail, but there's always a chance you'll nick the finger.

I always preferred to use baby nail clippers as I tried peeling once and was too scared to pull it in case I'd gone too far and hurt him. Wait until his hands are a little bigger and he's sleeping and see what you're comfortable with doing.
I clipped one of my son's nails CAREFULLY, and then realized that I had pinched his skin anyway. It didn't bleed, but I definitely clipped as much skin as fingernail. Since then I have been filing his nails really gently when needed, peeling them after they start to peel on their own, and using mittens the rest of the time. It's okay to wait for them to grow out enough to see what you are doing, as long as you protect the baby's little face from getting scratched.
I wouldn't peel the nails-try biting them. Why can't you clip them? I mean don't do it if it says it-always listen to the doctors but I have a 2 week old daughter and I haven't heard of it and they didn't say anything and I have been clipping them. I also have her wear mittens all the time too. Congrats on your little boy!
i used a nail file for the first few weeks as i dint want to cut them but at the hospital i was adviced by the midwife to bite in to one side of the overhang of the nail then peel it across but i was worried about taking to much off
I think you got it wrong.

Usually they say not to peel, but to clip them. Don't people them, you can end up peeling them to far and it could hurt. Baby nails are very thin and delicate. I would get a baby nail clipper, and clip them while your baby is sleeping.
for the first couple of weeks, the baby's nails are pretty soft, yet can do lots of damage on their skin...i used a baby nail file to just round out the sharp edges. I didn't start clipping his nails until probably after a month old because I was nervous and the file was working pretty well. I never peeled his nails..that sounds like it may cause hang nails...
Don't peel them, doing so could result in them getting too short. The best way to shorten nails on a baby is with a baby nail file, when he's asleep gently file the nail. If you do it while he's awake it may be difficult.
i wouldnt peel bc u might peel to much off. you can file the nails down. i didnt clip my sons nails till he was about a month old. i tried biting and i couldnt. thank god there are mittens.
I dont know about peeling but if your not comfortable to cut them you can also bite them. I could never do that bc it grossed me out but a bunch of my friends did that for their kids
We used the baby clippers on him when he was sleeping. That was the only time our wiggle worm was wiggle free :)

When he was tiny we just used the little hand covers because I was too afraid to cut him.
make sure they are wet first than it will be much easier!!! If you trust yourself bite them off it not bite the end and then peel them away!!! If they were long though...i will probably clip my baby 4get wat da doc says!!!
We didn't clip his nails until they were harder. They are to soft. If you have to just file them down with a baby nail file!
i won't clip my daughters nails cause it catches her skin. i can't file them she moves to much. i just bite them when she is nursing
Bite them yourself! I have never heard of clipper use being disallowed. As long as you are careful, what's the problem?
do it when they're sleeping.
I always bit my infants nails. its SO much easier.

Gel Nails......why does the paint peel off?

So I got my nails done is gel about 3 weeks ago beautiful!!! but then I went to get a fill and they look great but the paint is just peeling off?????? Why... are you susposed to use a base coat with gel or what please help so I can fix them!Gel Nails......why does the paint peel off?

I like to have long, natural nails, but they always peel and are too thin?

I don't know why, but my nails always peel and are exceptionally thin. If I drum the table with my fingers, the nails start to bend and it is just hard to be a 12 year old with really short fingernails for some reason. My mom told me I need more vitamin E. If that is true, what do I do to get it, and if there is any other way to get thicker, stronger, nails, please do tell. thanks for your help!I like to have long, natural nails, but they always peel and are too thin?
You do need more vitamin E and you can get pill supplies in a pharmacy :)

And also, you could use nail hardener to strenghten your nails, thats what I do.

Makes them all nice and non-brittle ;DI like to have long, natural nails, but they always peel and are too thin?
the fastest and easiest AND cheapest way to get stronger nails is by using tea tree oil nail strengthener. You can get it at Whole foods or maybe a gas station if your lucky
Been there done that.

Don't worry about it, hon.

My name is Angie %26amp; I'm 14.

I have really nice, long, pretty nails.

The secret? Apply a clear coat. Yes, that simple. Lol. It works for me %26amp; my gal pals. Or you can go to a nail Studio, and ask them for the Bethany treatment? Lol. That's what I do. The Bethany treatment is a cool, Vitamin E syrum, and it spreads on.

Otherwise, don't worry. Being 12 is NOTHING like being 19
Hey!

Well, my friend has naturally long nails, and they kept on peeling and snapping off, but since she has stopped wearing nail varnish, they have become much stronger, I think there must be some sort of chemical in nail varnish to make the nails weaken.

But, if you were to use nail varnish, I think wearing a clear strengthening one would be your best bet.

Yes, your mom is right, Vitamin E does help strengthen them, you find Vitamin E in are mostly nuts like almonds, if you don't like them, just take Vitamin E supplements.

Hope I helped!
rub garlic everyday before going to bed.........my mom made me do this cuz I used to do nail biting and after that they became so weak but after doing it they became strong.......drink milk it also helps

answer mine plz

1:

Use gloves when washing dishes or using harsh chemicals. This will keep the nail bed from getting too wet and causing the nail to become weak. If you are not able to use gloves, minimize the amount of time the nails are wet and dry them immediately after they have been exposed to water for long periods of time.

2:

Apply a thin coat of clear nail hardener over fingernails at least twice a day to help make the fingernails stronger. Do this for seven days consecutively, then remove the hardener and reapply a thin coat again, starting with day number one.

3:

Drink milk or take calcium tablets daily to help the body in making the nails stronger. Even a multivitamin with a significant dose of calcium is beneficial in the effort to make fingernails stronger.

GOOD LUCK

I would like to know who to make my nails stronger. They look terrible and are so weak and peel a lot.?

HOW TO MAKE YOUR NAILS GROW LONGER %26amp; STRONGER!!!!

Nails are an important part of a woman's appearance. Well-kept nails say that a woman know was how to to maintain her appearance and cares about her looks. A woman who takes pride in her looks is often admired by both women and men. For these reasons, we want to keep our nails as strong and beautiful as possible, so that we can maintain that elusive appearance of sophistication

Another reason to be concerned with your nails help it because it says a lot about how your body is doing. A healthy body will produce healthy nails, no matter what. If your nails are weak and breaking it is a sign that your body is most likely lacking in nutrition to the. When your nails are doing badly, so is your health.

Obviously you'll need to improve your health in order to improve the appearance of your nails. It is a must to have a well-balanced diet, lots of water to drink and regular exercise. Without these three things, your nails will fail to thrive. The proper nutrition helps them grow long and strong, and water keeps them flexible set, and provides moisture so that they don't turn brittle. Exercise will circulate oxygen throughout your body, which helps nutrients make their way to your nails.

Now that we've covered the basics you may want to learn some more advanced ways to keep your nails healthy and beautiful.

Oil is absolutely wonderful for nails. Vegetable oils or evil oil will penetrate into your skin or nails and lock moisture in. I suggest regular cuticle and nail massages with emu oil. Doing this will keep your nails strong, lubricated and very healthy.

You may also need to rethink your nail polish habits. If you wear nail polish every single day, your nails will never get the chance to breathe because the nail polish forms a solid barrier. Nail polish and remover are also known for being very drying to your nails.

As a remedy, I suggest that for every two manicures you get, should have at least three days of ';nail polish rest'; so that your nails can have a chance to recuperate and breathe.

I PEEL (not bite) my nails. I REALLY want to stop! Help?

I have a nailbiting message board at:

http://members.aol.com/Roseb441702/nailbite.htm

Read a few of the comments and you will see that you're not alone. I'm a nailbiter myself and I think that a lot of it has to do with nerves and stress - plus a lot of people have said that its just something to do with their hands.I PEEL (not bite) my nails. I REALLY want to stop! Help?
keep a nail filer near you all the time, it helps. use a fine one otherwise you might get carried away and not have any nails.

or you could just paint them
  • apply eyeshadow
  • I just put on fake nails like 15 mins ago, but can i peel them off already without hurting my real nails?

They make my nails hurt too. Take them off with acetone and let them soak off do not force anything.

If you leave them on they will stop hurting in a while. But it sounds like you have thin nails like mine if you choose to leave them on take them off in a week or two.I just put on fake nails like 15 mins ago, but can i peel them off already without hurting my real nails?
That nail glue you used sticks pretty firmly to your real nails, so if you pull them off, it will take the top layer of your nails off with them. But it'll do that anyway whether you do it now or wait awhile. If you do it right now though, it won't be a pleasant feeling, it will hurt because the nail glue is so fresh on your nails. I'd wait awhile before doing it, unless you don't mind pain.I just put on fake nails like 15 mins ago, but can i peel them off already without hurting my real nails?
No I dont think you can unless you really want to spend a lot of time with rubbing alchol taking off the glue, I wouldnt because the glue will be stuck to your nail and will stay there for about a week. But if they must come off then I guess it is possible.
no because if you do it wrong you can rip your cuticals badly and your nail may rip also with your cuticals trust i know you have to let them do it or use some nail polish and put in a bowl and put your hands in it until they come off

    good luck
i think if you either soak them in acetone they'll come off. Check the back of the box and see what the label says on how to do that.
you dont have to put your hands in anything those glues arent that good so just move your fake nail up and down and it'll peel off right away

or if that doesnt work put your hand under warm water and peel it off
id say take a hot shower first, then you should be able to peel them off, but of course its going to cause a lil pain.
The oil on your nails is probably letting them slip off. you need to use a nail buffer before you glue them on
all u have to do is soak Ur fingers in warm water for about 5 to 10 minuets and they should come off easily!
soak your fingers in nail polish remover it will help slide them off easier.
    use acetone=)
i wouldnt try it if i were you! it;s gonna hurt! but yeah try acetone. WHy would you do such a thing??????????
unless they are still wet. otherwise, no sorry.
dip them n nail polish and let the glue break down
    why would you do that?

    Peeling Nails?

For a good few months (can't remember how long) the top layer of my finger nails have been peeling off leaving them thin %26amp; easily breakable. It only peels off around the tips, %26amp; are less easily peely the further towards the bottom of my nails (towards the cutlicles) they get.

I tried just growing it out but it hasn't worked. I'm guesing I'm lacking something (my boyfriend thinks calcium).

Anyone have any ideas or what I can do to stop them peeling?Peeling Nails?
You need to feed your cuticles hun, your nails are dead and a by product like your hair so painting any ';wonder varnish'; on them wont make a blind bit of difference!!!!

You can get oil or cream something high in lanolin will help and it will take about 4 -6 weeks of constant use berfore you notice a difference but once you get there it is easy to maintain.Apply the cream to your cuticles 2 -3 times a day and massage in after a month before you go to bed will be fine!! Now the summer is coming that will also help as the cold will make your nails dry and brittle. If you dont want to spend loads of money on anything vasline will help!!!! and try to refran from using any varnishes for awhile as they also dry out the nail bed, this has nothing to do with lack of calcium!!!! Trust me im a professional!Peeling Nails?
Calcium will help, but you need to use the one that also has vit d added, you need vit d to absorb the calcium properly. Also try a skin hair an nail combo from Boots, Holland %26amp; Barret etc, specially formulated with the right vitamins and minerals so it should help.

Try a product such as the Sally Hansen Hard as Nails, an oldie but a goodie. It doesn't really heal the problem, but it gives your nails adequate protection so they don't keep peeling.
Hi sweetie, i have the same problem too !!

It's caused by dry nails... chemicals from dark colored nail polish, household detergents. Lacking in vit B %26amp; calcium causing our problem.

Due to this prob, my toe nails are kinda thin %26amp; flaky too-monthly pedicure !! I hardly let them breath a week or two before i reapplying nail polish.I'm afraid of losing my nails too so i'm off nail polish %26amp; no more buffing/ sandpapering my toe nails for a year to let them grow out. NOT EVEN ANY clear coat of base.

I know some one who's toe nails came off due to our problem. SERIOUS :)
You obviously have a calcium deficiency. Try drinking a bit more milk and eating more dairy products. in the mean time i reccommend that you try Sally Hansen Strenghtenig Nail treatment. it only costs a few puonds and you will see results within a week. Also most good cuticle balms have olive oil in so you could try rubbing a little bit on your nails as a miosturiser to stop them drying out and peeling. try not to pick them though!

    Good Luck

    Hope i have helped x
ok first you must must must take calcium orally... this is why they might be peeling. you probably dont have enough calcium in your bod. then take a file and scrub your nails lightly till you get am even coat, then apply sally hanson clear coat for nails. at night time before you sleep... take a garlic clove and try sticking your nails in them for a while then wash your hands, this should make then stronger too.

    hope this helps.
I had the same problem, until i found out about Nail Envy nail strengthener made by OPI(available in Boots chemist), i have had no problem since i started using it, but if i don't use it the problem soon returns, it isn't cheap though around 拢15 last time i bought a bottle.
I have the same problem and haven't found nothing good yet. The other day I read amazing comments about this product called Mavala and I will definitely try it!!!
I have the same problem and have gone from lovely nails last October to peeling horrid little stubs. Have used all the good products such as Nailtiques to feed the cuticle and oiling nails etc. but no luck so far.
The avon catalog sells a good nail varnish that helps peeling and brittleness, i know this because i have very brittle nails
go to the store and find those products in the beuty isle, for nails and see if they work! :P

Have you ever peeled off one of your finger nails (entirely....and fake nails don't count)?

i did that with my toe nail but it wasnt on purpose..i had a blood blister and it popped off=(Have you ever peeled off one of your finger nails (entirely....and fake nails don't count)?
Ya, I slammed it in the car door, it turned black toHave you ever peeled off one of your finger nails (entirely....and fake nails don't count)?
Yes. I smashed one finger with a rock, and the nail bed turned black, and the fingernail came out completely.

    It eventually grew back.
ya it was soooooo nasty it took forever to grow back

    it waz unbelievably nasty
yes my thumb nail. it turned black after i got bite by a dog.
Ew... Ive done this to my pinkie toe,,,, It was by far the most gross and painful thing to happen ever.. YUCk
i broke my entire nail once but it was an accident and i was little.....
i didnt peel it off my big toe nail came off from a screen door shutting on it. ew and my middle finger because it closed in a truck door.
yeah only after it got broke off half way and it was hanging there hurt like a mother!!!
Not intentionly, I had my finger ripped off in the front door.

My finger nails are brittle, and peel easily. can anyone help! PLZ!?

please help! i was thinking this was that iron thing.

OH! they are also very thin! not strong like most nails, and are turning orange.

idk if that helps! PLZ help me!My finger nails are brittle, and peel easily. can anyone help! PLZ!?
My mum is a quallified nail tech and i have also studied it. you should put clear nail varnish on you nails everynight to keep them strong and use rubber gloves while washing the pots and dont keep them in water for long as that makes them more softer....

    hope that helps

I peeled off my fake nails?

could I have accidently peeled my whole nail off and just got lucky?I peeled off my fake nails?
I liked I love soner's answer however taking the nail off is not what damages the nail. What damages the nail is when the nail tech files your real nail really thin so the glue and fake nail sticks better to the real nail.

They do it every time you get fake nails. There is no way around it.

Since the nails become so thin and brittle it is very easy to peel off your whole nail when removing the fake ones..I peeled off my fake nails?
    Your real nail?

Two years ago i had my nails done. Two days later my finger got jammed in a car door and my fake nail along with my real nail got torn off. one of the most horrible pains i've ever felt. you'll know if you did or not trust me. that was the last time i ever got my nails done.

if you want your fake nails off use nail polish remover with acetone (soaking is most effective- my mom used to soak cotton balls, carefully place onto nail, and wrap nail and cotton ball with foil for 20 min). the acetone will ';eat'; it off and won't damage your real nail.
When you peel off artificial nails, you can peel off a few layers of your natural nail, leaving them softer and weaker, and more prone to splits and breaks as they grow out
I peeled off my fake nails too. They are now infected. They are below the quick and very sore. I will never get fake nails again.
    only in little peices.
Not sure, but i have done that before and never pelled of my whole nail!

Does anyone else peel their finger or toe nails? Have you found a deterrent?

i found that putting a layer *or two or three* of that clear 60 second drying nail polish helps...i peel off the nail polish instead of the nail. it really helped me! good luck :)Does anyone else peel their finger or toe nails? Have you found a deterrent?
No, I do not do that, but in the stores, there are topical applicants that you place on top of your nail and is an easy to use peeler for nail polish or other nail products from your skin. They range from below $10 to around $25.
  • apply eyeshadow
  • Do you clip, bite, or peel off your baby's nails?

Good luck clipping. That crap is scary! Terrified me the first time and I nearly clipped skin.

I bite and/or file with a small baby nail file. Works perfect when I'm nursing. This is when she is most relaxed for me.Do you clip, bite, or peel off your baby's nails?
Depends on the age. Right after they are born you are not supposed to clip them because there nails are like there skin. It is better to file the sharp edges down, but if they have a nail that is already peeling, then peel it off. Once they are over a month, it is usually safe to start clipping them. You can usually tell when they are ready for clippers just by feeling the tips of the nail. If they are hard and not as flimsy, then go with the clippers, but if not, just file or peel them.Do you clip, bite, or peel off your baby's nails?
My son is 3 weeks old and I file his nails with a little baby nail filer every other day or so (he likes scratching his face when he fusses, so I have to make sure he doesn't have any sharp nails). I am not comfortable using a nail clipper on his tiny little nails yet, and biting them? eh... that would be a bit of a last resort. I only peel his nails when I see a bit of a hangnail, which is usually when he tries to do his scratching bit. I'd recommend filing his nails.
Oh my! I tried to clip my son's nails when he was tiny, and snipped a bit of the skin off the end of the finger... TWICE! I can't believe I did it a second time. Poor thing, it bled a bit, and he whimpered a bit, but *I* bawled like a newborn that's had it's bum slapped! I felt like such a terrible mother.

From then, until he was about 10 months when his fingers and nails were bigger, I'd put off doing anything about them for ages, then bite them off. I found it a bit tricky to tear them.
clipping is just nasty!! i only tried it once and accidentally clipped my poor son's finger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i always found the nails a bit tough to bite or peel so i have been using nail scissors you know the kind with the curved blade and cutting his nails while he sleeps so he doesn't wriggle around. it works a treat and you can see what you're doing unlike clippers!
I don't do any of the above. I use surgical scissors i was given by a nurse friend. They work perfect. And I don't do it while he is awake just because you never know when he just might move and besides why make him suffer and try to keep him still when I could do it when he is sleeping. That is so much more easier and there is no fussing or making him cry. If you can't get surgical scissors then find some type of nail scissors. Good Luck.
I filed my sons nails with an emery board for the first few weeks. It was the only thing that seemed to make sense when he was that little. I started clipping them when that wasn't enough to keep up with his growing nails. And the idea of biting nails seems less than sanitary to me.
when my daughter was really young i would peel them as they generally started to lift themselves and now i bite them as there is NO WAY i would put clippers anywhere her wiggly waggly fingers and hands... its a 3 person job clipping our dogs nails nevermind trying to hold down our daughter!!!!
I cut them with little baby scissors that have a protective edge. I hate to bite her nails and peeling them always leaves little sore bits and man, clippers and me don't go together after a bloody start.
at the beginning i bit them off since they were so thin. then at about 3 months i used the nail clipper from the emergency kit that helps you not nick their skin. now at 6 months im using the nail clipper with the lil magnifying glass. it works like a charm.
Clip 'em. They seem to grow soo fast!! Actually, they were long when she was born too! I couldn't wait to go home from the hospital so I could clip them, they wouldn't do it for some reason.
Both lol i have been known to nibble them off as when she was a newborn i caught her skin and she got an infection in the corner and i felt so bad.
i clip my babies nails, i know of ppl who bite and peel and i tink that just messes them up and gets them all jagged feeling
i tried peeling but they kept bending, clipping is easier, just pop baby on your lap, hold hand steady and clip away
I clip my kids nails. And when they were babies, I clipped them also. I use nail clippers.
I don't have a baby, but I do usually bite my own fingernails. My toe nails I either peel or clip.
Honestly, biting and peeling is easier than clipping. It's too easy to get skin caught in the clippers.
I use nail scissors! Never cut my boys fingers before! Clippers are to hard and biting is horrible i couldnt do it..
I bite!! yum yum...clipping scares the crap outta me!
I clip my baby's nails from the time he was born.
peel he doesnt like the clipers and i wont dare bite them
bite or peel just sounds bad... I will clip when my baby is born.
    clip and peel

they grow so fast- it's crazy!!

clip em..it's hard but i try my best
    CLIP

biting - ew thats unsanitary. the poor little bub will get germs.

peeling - not exactly the safest way to do it...you could rip it back too far.
    Yes.

Why r my nails easy to peel off?

not the whole just bitsWhy r my nails easy to peel off?
naturally, it is. but, a lot, and with cracking, is a sign of poor nutrition. Why r my nails easy to peel off?
mine used to do that .

talk to your doctor to find out what it might be mine was my diet

I have the world's most horrible nails. They're SO bitten and peeled! How can I stop?

Everytime I stop for a few days, I start peeling them again. My friend put something called Bite Nail on them, but that didn't work. I'm promised a manicure if I can get my nails nice and neat.I have the world's most horrible nails. They're SO bitten and peeled! How can I stop?
Okay, this is a serious addiction! I know!

How I quit was by first keeping my nails as short as possible at all times - less to bite!

I cleaned my nails A LOT with nail polish remover even if I didn't need it. The smell and taste was not something to enjoy.

As I got better I let my nails grow out and I got a manicure and once I saw how pretty they were, I couldn't bite them!

Now I make sure they are ALWAYS painted - it really helps you keep yourself away!I have the world's most horrible nails. They're SO bitten and peeled! How can I stop?
use a nail clipper first then a nail file then clear nail polish it will look beautiful that's how i do my wife's tow nails the clear nail polish helps it grow stronger
find something to occupy ur nails and mouth with. chew gum or do something with ur hands if u have to. i used to chew my nails like ALL the time but then i found something to occupy my hands with so that i wuldnt chew my fingernails.
well i always used to bite my nails and bite my skin around but my mom took me one day to get professionaly nails put on i just got them off a like a few weeks ago and my real nails have gotten really long and i havent bitten them but the fake nails made my real nails look horible but they are growing
put hot pepper sauce on them
i quit biting nails. now i bite women-lol. joking. i did quit cold turkey. you gotta wanna.
I used to bite my nails so short and went to a manicurist and got acrily nails. Can't bite those suckers.

Instantly I had beautiful nails and biteing them is a filthy habit.

go back once a month for refills and reshaping. Not that expensive and you can have beautiful sexy nails for the rest of your life.
Keep the moisturized at all times with a nail lactin and then lotion. I bite my nails every now and then as well - it's a nervous habit, but I find that I tend to refrain when I have a lot of lotion on them. Make sure you're always doing something with your hands too - it helps. And I find that working out and taking care of myself physically and emotionally helps me want to have nice fingers...so make it an overall plan!! Good luck!
you can color your finger nails (if you are a female),once it colored you will be hesitate to bite it.

It is a habit you have that needs to be replaced with something else until you forget about peeling/biting your nails. Try chewing gum so you cann't easily bite your nails. Put bandaids around the fingers that are in the best condition. Make a daily committment to leaving the trouble fingers alone. Try to keep it up for a month and hopefully you will be less tempted to bite/peel your nails after that. Or you could try having a manicure with tips put on. They're not much fun to bite.

do your nails nice first then it might tempt u not to bite them and if u still do u can get that like nasty tasting nail polish, but also replace it with a new habit like chewing gum or i always have a barcelet or hair tie around my wrist so that i can figit with that instead of my nails!!
Try using this stuff. It tastes really bitter, so you won't want to bite your nails anymore. It also helps them to grow back in nice and strong. Good luck!

Try filing your nail across so that they will be square at the tips and polish with a clear polish to protect them. Don't pick at them and peel off the polish either. Biting and picking your nails pushes them into the beds and causes hangnails. I am sure there are other causes but once I stopped doing that it stopped for me. You may be lacking vitamins if they are thin.

    Peeling nails?

ok so i have been putting nail polish on a lot lately and ever since then my nails have been peeling.

is this because of the nail polish?Peeling nails?
how long does it take before you remove the nail polish and put a new coat?

when nail polish stays too long on your nails, it either turns your nails yellow or results to peeling. Also, use a base for your nail polish. It's usually the colorless type before you put the colored coat. Then don't let it stay on your nails for more than a week. It dries up your nails too.Peeling nails?
always use a base coat before you paint them.
I believe nail poilsh has a bit af acidity to it so It could be from it...I'd lay off the polish awhile and see if it gets better.
put on a protective coat b4 u paint ur nails

How can you help finger nails to be strong and not peel and be fragile?

i know it sounds corny but drink milkHow can you help finger nails to be strong and not peel and be fragile?
Apply a coat of nail glue. Nail glue now comes in a bottle with a nail brush applicator so you would brush it on the same way as nail polish. Nail glue is a lot stronger than nail polish though and less expensive in most cases. It also dries smooth and shiny. How can you help finger nails to be strong and not peel and be fragile?
I started taking Biotin and a multi-vitamin everyday. That worked for me...my nails are so much stroger now.
you should go to the salon and get that thing that stogens your nials ! stong hold nail polish
sally hansens hard as nails works very very very good. my mom used it and her nails were hard as rocks and didnt break easily. try it. keep it on, but every once in a while take it off for your fingernails to breath. and never use fake fingernails! never, never, never!!! the nail polish comes in colors now. not just clear. check it out!!!
try buffing them use a buffing cream and buffer

My finger nails seem to peel and crack alot is it something I'm doing or can control???

My finger nails are long and they peel at the top like layers. My finger nails seem to peel and crack alot is it something I'm doing or can control???
Your malnutritioned. U need to change that way ur eating. Vitamins, proteins, and minerals that ur body needs to produce the nail are insufficient.

they also sell nail polish that have certain things that help the restoration and growth of the nail.

hope this helps. My finger nails seem to peel and crack alot is it something I'm doing or can control???
That is fairly normal, and it means you have a slight vitamin deficiency. Take a regular children's vitamin every day. Also, don't cut your nails; file them.
It may be because your hands are in water alot or maybe something lacking in your diet. I have the same problem and will be curious to see the other answers.
Its not that uncommon. Take vitamins if you aren't already, and buy some gelatin capsules. Gelatin really strengthens your nails. Buy a clear strengthener polish (I use Sally Hansen) Only use 1 coat and reapply often .
It's an indication of a poor diet.

Start eating more healthy food and you should notice a difference in a few weeks.
If you want to help your fingernails, you need to take in a greater amount of gelatin. Try Jello, there's always room for that.
I had the same problem, but it stopped after I took prenatal vitamins.
take your vitamins. mine peel sometimes too. alot! well you can try a strengthening clear nailpolish and nailpolish remover. don't bite them or open hard things that will easily break or weaken your nails.
I agree with cyanne. Also, for a quick fix while you wait for the vitamins to catch up, I like Sally Hansen Miracle Cure. It's a clear nail polish with something that fortifies nails and I've noticed my nails are stronger since I've been using it. I haven't had a break or chip since I started using it a week ago.

Has anyone try the new product from Avon peel on nails?

I have tried them. Really easy to put on, but they only lasted 3 days and they stared peeling :-/Has anyone try the new product from Avon peel on nails?
Yes, I liked them, but for the price and the few days they lasted I would rather just stick to old fashioned polishing. They were easy to use, and very shiny too. I will probably buy them again in the future.Has anyone try the new product from Avon peel on nails?
no. but I got them and will soon. I hope they work as good as they say they do. have you?
    Yes, I have and they're great. They can last a long time, depending on how much stuff you put your nails through. Always put them on clean nails, and remove with nail polish remover. They're fun, like playing with stickers. Call your Avon rep for a free sample or a free trial (some will do that for you). Have fun. %26lt;*)))%26gt;%26lt;
I haven't, but I've been thinking about it. Nice to know it sounds like they work!

Is there certain nailpolish that does not chip? I paint my nails within 1-2 days it starts to peel.?

I have used OPI, Sally Hansen, Revlon, Even Revlon Colorstay. Any tipsIs there certain nailpolish that does not chip? I paint my nails within 1-2 days it starts to peel.?
Use a top coat; Revlon makes a good one and it's called No Chip. You should add a coat every other day. Revlon also makes a No Chip polish and an excellent base coat. My nails last for about 10 days.Is there certain nailpolish that does not chip? I paint my nails within 1-2 days it starts to peel.?
    Simple answer - Barry M.

Barry M has a very high quality inexpensive range of nail polishes (in their case, paints) which last days and days.

They have their own base coat, nail hardener and top coat all in one bottle.

Barry M have won awards with the amazing quality of their highly affordable nail paints.
OPI is the best, and if it is chipping than use a top coat, because it should not be chipping
use a bottom and top coat i think the best one is the one by OPI

  • What causes finger nails to peel ?

The main cause of dry nail nails (peeling, flaking) is external abuse from harsh chemicals ,cold weather, not wearing gloves. Illness, stress and a poor diet can also trigger your nails to peel. What causes finger nails to peel ?
People that have their hands in drying substances, women that take polish on and off lots, fake nails, all dry out the nail and can result in peeling. A good cure for this is to take Vitamin e oil and apply to fingernails at night when watching tv, rub it in real good, put on a pair of gloves or if you have no gloves use socks, let the oil soak into your nails and your cuticles, will help your hands stay soft also.

Some people have a vitamin deficiency that causes this also. What causes finger nails to peel ?
I know that it's probobly due to lack of protein and calcium. When your fingernails get random white scratches, I looked this up, it's due to lack of protein. Since I don't eat a lot of meat, get protein drinks and bars, it helpes also eat cheese!!!!! It also depends if you have thin weak nails, that's only due to genetics I guess.
    Oooooooh!

    That's good!

Nails that always peel and break?

What do you do if your nails wont ever grow out and always peel and such?Nails that always peel and break?
You can try to use more moisturizer-preferably a hand and nail moisturizer. Vaseline works really well as well, especially if you wear gloves while you sleep. I know some people say that it's bad because it's petroleum and so on but hey, it works for me.

A question I have is do you wear fake nails or nailpolish frequently? That could be the cause. Wearing too much nailpolish or fake nails can cause a havoc on your nails. When I went to beauty school, I did my nails a lot and it caused them to get yellow, dry, and made it peel. The tips of my nails I mean. I stopped using nailpolish except for special occasions and my fingernails rarely split.

An internal cause might be lack of one of these three things: zinc, iron, and/or calcium. Try to take a multivitamin supplement or just zinc/iron/calcium supplement. I've read that most multivitamins only has 18 mg of iron and that it isn't enough. Try to eat more meat as well. Vitamin C can boost iron absorption in your body. Iron deficiency could also be a sign of anemia. I had that when I was younger so my nails used to be really frail and would never grow long. Go see a doctor if you think you take enough iron but still show no signs of improvement.

Nailpolishes/treatments can work but you have to be consistent and I personally think it's only temporary. You have to treat the inside to be able to have long term effects.

Hope that was helpful and here's a tidbit I found on the internet:

    ===========

    www.womenfitness.net/beauty/handfeet/n鈥?br>

During a health check up, your doctor may examine your nails, which will often reflect not only the state of your health, but also what you're been eating -- and what you're lacking.

Thin, peeling nails, or nails with white spots or ridges, mean your body is running short of zinc. You should incorporate more legumes, beans, mushrooms, brewer's yeast, and whole grains into your meals.

Are your nails spoon -shaped or fluted ? This may signal a lack of iron and/or vitamin A. Load up on your greens, sprouts, carrots, melon and pumpkin. Eat small portions of iron -rich liver and other red meat.

Brittle nails may be a sign that you need more biotin, which is found in yeast mushrooms, grapefruit, watermelon. bananas, and strawberries. It could also mean you need more iron --easily obtained from red meat, greens and carrots --or that you lack zinc.

Fragile nails and nails that show horizontal or vertical ridges could mean a deficiency in vitamin B. Carrots, spinach, brown rice, melon, and walnuts are good, natural sources.

Poor nail growth could mean you're not getting enough zinc.

Hangnails can be painful and look red and inflamed. You may want to try adding foods that are high in folic acid like barley, bran. legumes, lentils., and mushrooms. vitamin C could also help: orange, citrus, guava, amla, and all green vegetables are good sources.

Avoid taking supplements to improve nail health as too much of any single vitamin could also lead to brittle and fragile nails. Get your vitamin from food. When you nourish your whole body, nails will automatically begin to look healthier.

use some of the green tea nail strengthener it prevents chips, flakes, and breakage.

    good luck with your nails.
Mine do that too. I tried nail hardener, but they still break and peel. I just cut them very short so they do not break.
Eat geletan. you can get it in capsules at the health food store
i have the same problem. after i got my nails done a bunch of times, they were so thin and just broke right off so i had to keep them filed real short. i got some sally hanson maximum growth polish. it goes on a pretty clear pinkish color and works real well after about 8 days. you should try it.

It may seem weird to see you Doctor over something that seems so trivial but even the ridges along the nails are another mineral deficiency sign.My finger nails peel??? [PICTURES]?
That happens to everybody--perfectly normal. If you peel it, it just makes the nail thinner. Try not to pick at it too much, and it will go away. Hope this helped!
It happens if I touch washing liquid without wearing any gloves and some soaps.

    It goes away, eventually
Yeah its happened to me on my toes dont pick at it and eventually it will just grow out.
eww clean your nails before you put pictures of them on the internet! :) jk uhm, try drinking more milk? maybe

Here are eight of the top causes of peeling fingernails.

    ***Climate Changes

No, we鈥檙e not talking about carbon emissions. Your nails are not suffering from global warming the way the polar bears are. It鈥檚 just that sudden changes in the weather, or extreme weather conditions, might be affecting your nails. Usually the culprit is cold, dry weather that dehydrates the nail plate, causing layers to separate and flake off. To solve it, try rubbing in a rich lotion or moisturizer every morning and evening鈥攁nd wear gloves!

    ***Dietary Issues

Many people will say that if your nails are peeling, it鈥檚 a lack of protein that鈥檚 the cause. This is really unlikely in North America or Western Europe, even if you鈥檙e a hard-core vegan. Usually, if diet鈥檚 to blame for your fingernail problems, it鈥檚 a lack of biotin, sulfur, or B-vitamins (which is a concern for vegans). A good supplement, along with a few extra servings of raw vegetables and fruit, should alleviate the chipping.

    ***Prescription Medications

Some medicines have a drying effect on the skin and nails. If your peeling nails became an issue after you started taking a certain drug, you should head to the manufacturer鈥檚 website to double-check side effects. We鈥檇 never recommend quitting any physician-prescribed drug just for the sake of your fingernails. Instead, try improving your diet, as in step 2, and moisturizing, as in step 1. If that doesn鈥檛 work, pick a good nail strengthener (see step 8).

***Psoriasis, Yeast Infections, or Other Skin Conditions

If you鈥檙e suffering from a skin condition such as psoriasis or a yeast infection, there could be knock-on effects for your nails. Many psoriasis patients also report chipping and peeling nails. If you鈥檝e been given a prescription ointment or cream for what鈥檚 on your skin, try rubbing it on your nails, too.

    ***Chemical Exposure

Lots of people don鈥檛 take proper precautions when cleaning the house or conducting pest control. For the sake of your lungs, ventilate the room. For the sake of your nails, wear gloves. Chemicals and solvents present in many cleaning products can dry out or damage your fingernails, leading to peeling.

    ***Immersion in Water

Water swells and separates the layers of the nail plate. If you keep re-wetting the nails, they never dry properly, leading to flaking and peels. If you鈥檙e in a job where you soak your hands or have to wash them regularly, you鈥檙e going to have nail problems unless you take evasive action. Wear gloves wherever possible, and moisturize at least twice a day, if not more. Fitness swimmers who spend more than an hour in the pool should rub olive oil or petroleum jelly into their nails before starting their laps.

    ***Post-Fake Nail Trauma

Really well-done acrylic nails look great, but it鈥檚 pretty much inevitable that your nails will be paper thin and damaged once you have the fakes taken off. You鈥檒l have to be patient, and stimulate new growth with diet, moisturizers, and nail strengtheners. But don鈥檛 just pick any nail strengthener鈥?br>

***The Wrong Kind of Nail Treatments

Nail strengtheners and peeling nail solutions contain a lot of chemicals. Most of them are designed to make your nails bond back together to prevent breaking and peeling. Some of them may actually be making the problem worse. Formaldehyde, an ingredient in several popular strengtheners, can cause drying and irritation of the skin and nails鈥攏ot to mention being a suspected cause of breast cancer. Switch to a nail care product that鈥檚 free of formaldehyde, toluene, and dibutyl pthalate, such as Nail Aid鈥檚 Peeling Nail Intense Repair Gel. Your entire body, not just your nails, will thank you.

I have thin, flimsy nails that peel... what should I do?

I used to have strong nails. Now, whenever I push on the nail just a bit, it bends. Sometimes the corners split, and I can put another nail under it and push, so it peels off a layer of the nail.

I just peeled fake nails off and i wanna know how to make them normal...fast!?

    ughh, it's driving me crazy

i'll never spend 30$ on getting my nails done just so they can be ruined right afterwards!

    grrrr.

any tips??I just peeled fake nails off and i wanna know how to make them normal...fast!?
If you have already taken the nails off, buff the nail plate gently to remove any glue or acrylic that may still be on the nail. If you want them to grow fast, take zinc tablets and vitamin E, this will make them grow really fast. Rub a cuticle cream or oil on the cuticle to promote growth or get regular manicures. If you are looking for the strength back, use Revitanail - Unless they are really thin, then the formaldahyde in the product will make them hurt.

    Hope this helps

xXxI just peeled fake nails off and i wanna know how to make them normal...fast!?
I agree with you, i hate the fake nail effect afterwards! for me, i used nail polish remover with acetone..soak them in it for 30 minutes and you will look better with your nails
soak them in warm water for a couple minutes to soften them up, then buff them gently with a buffer (not a nail file) to get rid of the ridges. then polish them with a clear strengthening top coat
nail polish remover with acetone in it... or very hot water.... soak your nails in it

How come when my nails reach a certain length they split or peel?? I take Biotin.?

Ugh... I would like to know the same thing. My nails are weak like that, and I too take supplements for it but they do not seem to work :o(
Eat a lot of cabbage and garlic. Also, this does work, tap your nails on a hard surface while you can, (watching TV) do this when you're alone, the noise is aggravating to those around you. Cut out dairy and chocolate because contrary to beliefs, these products rob the body of calcium. Good Luck!

Soaking nails in olive oil , taking vitamin E and there's always Nutra Nails.

Good Luck!! :--0My nails constantly peel off and they don't grow that well and also they break easily...any good treatment?
get some knox gelatin and soak your hands it for about 30 mins every other day it hardens them
Someone told me to go the health food store and get some horse tail root. She said it's amazing and you will have beautiful nails. Hope it works!
I used to have that problem too. I would suggest increasing your dairy intake and using a nail strenthening treatment. Also file your nails regularly to avoid the beginning of the nail peels.
I get this once i have taken my false nails off which realy screw your nails up for a very long time... i would reccomend using a nail varnish hardner... it makes your nails less breakable and somehow makes you stop biting your nails... you will have too use it a few times before you know it works, but it realy is good and you can buy it anywhere for a reasonable price!!!
I have the exact same problem! I started rubbing a think creamy hand lotion into my nails a few times every day and that seemed to help. I can now get them to grow a bit more.

I don't have any real solution though. My problem is mine dry out really fast so I can't use polish. Hydration was the best solution I found.
yes ... stop picking your nose so much .. the boogers have added fungi to them and deteriorate the nail coating much more quickly opposed to just shooting snot rockets
It's a little pricey but its called Nailtiques. You can find it at a CVS or at drugstore.com but it is amazing. There is a formulation (I believe its #1) for brittle nails. Its a clear polish that you put on every day and it really strengthens your nails. Its so worth it!
The best thing to do is to really make sure that you use a hand lotion regularly, especially after each time you wash your hands or have them exposed to chemicals or irritants. The more moisturized and healthier your cuticles are, the healthier your nail growth will be. I also use a moisturizing nail and cuticle oil called TIPS at least once a day, which is available from various televised shopping channels or directly from askcosmetics.com.

My finger nails do not peel.

The only time your nails will peel is if you are very dehydrated, have not been taking good care of your nails, or both.

So, keep cutting them shorter until they start getting stronger.

my mother always said eating gelatin (ie Jello) would strengthen your nails. otherwise i would try a product you can buy at the pharmacy. Sally Hansen makes a couple different options. Personally, I would just try to keep your nails short and skip the nail polish- it will dry out your nails.
eat jello and make sure you are getting plenty of calcium and zinc
    Knox Gelatin

    or

Brush on nail fiber then clear polish over top
veggie oil on them every noght! It works great!!
buy Jojoba oil and rub it into your nails every day - (best at night before going to bed) and also see that you get lots of calcium - (drink a glass of milk daily) . You also need vitamin E. Vitamin E is a fat soluble vitamin meaning if you eat carrot salad for instance, which contains vitamin E - you have to add oil so as to be able to absorb it...

    Hope this helps

p.s. make sure you wear gloves when you work with cleaning liquids... they tend to dry out your nails too

I'm just wondering if anyone has an actual answer as to why I do this. I've never thought it was a big deal, ever. But now it's got me thinking. If I randomly scratch my head or back or pick a scab in public, it kills me not to be able to eat it. I don't know why. I've been doing it forever. Anyone with an actual helpful answer, please help. If not, don't bother.I eat my dandruff, any type of scabs, peeling skin off my body, dirt under my nails and I can't stop.?
No offence ... but hold on for a minute while I throw up..... blah, yuck, puke ........

I am curious if you did this as a child ?...AND... if so did your parents try to help you with this ? If no... time to get yourself a good therapist ... seriously :)I eat my dandruff, any type of scabs, peeling skin off my body, dirt under my nails and I can't stop.?
It's an actual psychological disorder. Obviously it's not a life threatening thing, but it could be embarassing for you in public. Talk to a psychologist, as cognitive or other types of therapy should be able to help.
it is a form of cannibalism

and thanks for that i just chucked up my lunch, positively gross

why not try eating the goo that comes from the corner of your eyes to

  • Is my finger nail going to fall off,or should I peel it off...?

about a month ago I slammed the tip if my finger in one of those outside newspaper metal boxes, the next day under my finger nail was blue and then turned purple to black within the next few weeks.I knew it was a blood clot but figured if I just left it alone it would heal itself.today I was picking at it and where the cuticle is I noticed there was an indent from one side to the other(like a pushed in line)

I ended up accidentally tearing part of the nail from the cuticle off(with no feeling)the blood clot runs from the cuticle to the middle of the finger nail not touching the sides of the finger nail.I ended up picking at it enough that I tore the whole bottom of my finger nail where the cuticle was,now there is still more then half of my nail and alot more dried up blood underneath.I have washed my hands since and am now wondering if I could peal the rest of it off without either going crazy from pain, making it worse or just leave it alone till a new nail grows in.mind you it is hard not to pick at it especially now being that I have already begun to do so.Is my finger nail going to fall off,or should I peel it off...?
just let it heal. it'll get better in time. peeling it off is just going to hurt like mother. Is my finger nail going to fall off,or should I peel it off...?
    ew

dont peel it off cus its not gonna grow anymore

just let it grow and it will carry all the blood away. leave a bandaid on it so that you dont pick it anymore then just let ur nail become yellow.
If I was you I would leave it alone and just let it heal.
    DO NOT PEEL IT OFF

Why does skin peel on sides of nails on my fingers ?

and how can i prevent it or atleast stop it being as bad? coz its really annoying...Why does skin peel on sides of nails on my fingers ?
someone told me that when your cuticles are peeling it means you are lacking some minerals and vitamins. You may need to go see your doctor or start taking multi-vitamins.

there are also supplements for strong nails at most pharmacies. They work for cuticles too. Also get cuticle oil...i know its the skin on the sides of the nails but sometimes all you need to do is strengthen your cuticles. Hope it works out for you.Why does skin peel on sides of nails on my fingers ?
Take a general multi vitamin. Use a good hand lotion like Sally Hansen 18 Hour Protective hand creme, available at drugstores and online. Apply at least 3x per day, and really slather it on at night and then put on sleeping gloves to add extra protection.
it means you have vitamin and mineral defficiency. go see your doc.
    use a good lotion.
Your hands are dry, and you can put olive oil on your hands over night.

Please Help! My nail varnish never works properly...bubbled...peels off...?

When i put nail varnish on, it tends to create little ugly bubbles on the surface.

Plus, whilst other peoples nail varnish tends to chip off, mine simply peels off in big chunks - a lot of the time, it all completely peels off in one go.

    Please help.

( I don't always use cheap nail varnish, i get the same problem with Leighton Dennys nail varnish - 2 bottles, 拢18)

Please help, i have to get it right for an upcoming event.

Thank you for any replies. Please Help! My nail varnish never works properly...bubbled...peels off...?
Maybe you're putting too thick a layer on? I usually put on a thin layer in three strokes if you can. Then when it dries you can put on more if you want. Always top it up with a clear coat too so it doesn't chip.

Hope that helps! Please Help! My nail varnish never works properly...bubbled...peels off...?
get them done be a pro?

it's not nececcaraly the more expensive brand you use-but the quality

    use 2 coats-don't dab it on-brush gently

    usee a clear coat
two very thin layers works better than one thick one. paint them in 3 stripes, one in the middle and then the sides.

Why does nail polish when i wear it peels off after a day if i'm lucky?

its frustrating! i put on nail polish and once it dries it starts peeling off after a day, can someone please help?! BTW our ball is coming up in a month so would really appreciate it if someone could help. :) thanksWhy does nail polish when i wear it peels off after a day if i'm lucky?
you should get a clear coat when i dries it would at least help a bit and do you do activities because that could be a problem like swimming and being sweaty and stuff so i would do your nails right before your ball :) answer mine plez n thank uWhy does nail polish when i wear it peels off after a day if i'm lucky?
well it depends on the quality of your nail polish. if its cheap then it'd probably wont stay as long. and peels off very easily. also, if you add a top coat, it'll hold the nail polish better and it's last longer [also makes it look nicer with a gleam]

try sally hansen nail polish, its good quality and you can find it at drugstores.
ok the same thing happens to me. but it depends on which brand of nailpolish you use. NYC nailpolish is longlasting and stays on the longest for me. try to get a nailpolish that says ';long lasting color'; or something like that on it. also try putting multiple coats of it on. also try using clear as an under and overcoat on you nails. i heard this helps it stay on longer. good luck!
its the polish. use a base coat first (a clear coat will work fine) and then do your color then once the color is completely dry put on a good top coat and kind of over lap it on the ends of your finger tips and at the base of your nail. it should stay good for a while.
    thaat happens all the time

but it can be fixed with clear nail polish

start by putting the color you want and then

    wait for it to dry

then put a coat of clear nail polish over it

wait for it to dry and then repeat it once more if

    you'd like
hi,just use a base coat first then your polish followed by a top coat. Make sure your hands are clean and dried. You can buy a top/base coat both in one at any walgreens or drug store. Good luck and take care
Before you apply your polish, make sure your nails are clean and dry. Apply two coats only, and make sure the coats are thin and that the first one is completely dry before you apply the second coat.
Try using this really cool stuff called chipskip by opi. You put it on before you apply the polish and it makes it last longer. It might be that your nails have too much oil in them!

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090705201333AAVJYva
it could be the type of nailpolish you are using, or the amount of coats you are applying.

tip- use a base coat and a top coat before and after applying your nail polish.
ok well what are you doing with your hands like playing in dirt and stuff will really wear that stuff out

also you should try different more expensive polishes

you can also try putting about 40 billion layers of clear polish over whatver color your wearing lol
have you tried using a clear top coat and when you use the polish do your shake your bottle or do you roll it in between your palms.
use a good top coat, makes all the difference in the world. i like Seche Vite, it is very quick drying and makes my polish last a week or more.
It might be the brand of nail polish you have. Some chip faster than others. Do you put a clear top coat on? Because that extends the life a bit longer.
make sure your nails are clean [no lotion or w.e on the surface]

try using a good base coat, a quality polish [2 coats] %26amp; a top coat.
    its probably crappy nail polish.

get some good nail polish i guess..idk wht 2 tell u bc mine always stays on for like 3 months..
that must be cheap nail polish....butttt.............apply like 3 coats and a clear/base and toppp
Wear a top coat of nail polish... that will keep the nail polish down instead of peeling.
Apply a layer of base coat and top coat for durability.
because you probably soaked it in water alot. happened to me in the shower.
my nails do that too..but i usually get bored and peel it off...lol

ANYWAY, it could be because your using to much or your doing alot of coats.
wear a transparent coat after the one u want..

It sounds like an impulse control problem, called skin picking. It is very similar to trichotillomania or compulsive hair pulling.

If it is becoming bothersome for you or affecting your ability to go about your daily life, you should look into medication and/or therapy. For medication, they often prescribe medications that are also prescribed for obsessive-compulsive disorder. Your scratching is a compulsive behavior that you cannot control, isn't it? But improvement is better if you combine medication with therapy. Behavioral techniques are supposed to be very helpful. Behavioral therapy may include:

Habit Reversal Training (HRT), a four-step process which teaches you awareness of your habits, how to relax, how to breathe and center yourself, and to perform a competing and opposing muscle response.

Stimulus Control, a behavioral treatment that seeks to help sufferers first identify, and then eliminate, avoid, or change the particular activities, environmental factors, mood states, or circumstances that have become associated with, and that trigger picking. The goal here, is to consciously control these triggers that lead to the undesirable behaviors, and to create new non-destructive behaviors.I have a bad habit...I scratch my thumbs with my own nails so it's like I'm peeling off my skin...?
One thing don't cut your nails too short because you can get a infection. Just cut the white parts off your nails! Use lotion for your hands so they are not dry. Hope that helps!
You are pretty! You are Smart! You are as good as any human being on this planet! Now stop scratching your thumbs! Masturbate and or have sex every now and then for goodness sakes!
I scratch the skin around the nail. It's annoying and it hurts, but its by habit.
Eww cut your nails to the point where they have no length and then there willk be nothing to scratch them. Wear gloves. Get your nails done and the acrylic they use is blunt after they are filled to there would be no sharpe ends.
Wear gloves. See a hypnotherapist, or get counselling.

I have fingernails that peel from the top of nail?

My nails peel from the top. I don't use fingernail polish or anything. I don't peel them, but they eventually peel down to nothing. It starts where it looks like a chunk of nail is missing from the top of my nail by the cuticle, and it eventually just peels down to nothing. It doesn't peel all at once, so it is a hard strong nail after it has peeled, it just is disformed from the peeling. They aren't yellow or discolored. It always use to be just one finger, and now it is on three of my fingers. Once it is peeled off, you can see where at the top it eventually starts the process all over again. Any ideas?I have fingernails that peel from the top of nail?

Why do I always feel the urge to peel off my eyebrows and eat them, and bite my nails?

I don't feel stressed out, because it's summer, but I have been biting my nails since 2nd grade (I'm about to go into 8th) and any attempts I have made to stop have been futile.

I always am doing both of these things without thinking about them, and, as you would imagine, the number of times that this happens raises drastically when I'm under stress. Why do I always feel the urge to peel off my eyebrows and eat them, and bite my nails?
Pulling out your eyebrows is a disorder called trichotillomania and yes it is related to and caused by the same thing as nail biting. Doctors called these behaviors impulse control disorders. Even if you are out for summer and you don't feel over stressed, you might have a natural level of anxiety that is going on 24-7 and you just don't notice it. What psychologists will do for this is give you therapy and teach you other ways of relieving anxiety that is not harmful. The eyebrow thing is something that you are going to want to get over because people with trichotillomania frequently end up with bald patches from the constant damage caused by picking out hairs. People with this disorder end up having to use makeup or cosmetic tattooing to cover the bald spots. Some people also pull hair out of their head and end up wearing wigs for the rest of their lives. Here is a link to a page that goes into detail about this behavior: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trichotillo鈥?/a>Why do I always feel the urge to peel off my eyebrows and eat them, and bite my nails?

My nails PEEL? what causes this?

ok at the tips my nails will literally peel, not entirly off but a little latyer of nail with peel off and it makes my nails gross and not healthy and weak and bleh.

how can i prevent this and why does it do this?

thanksMy nails PEEL? what causes this?
Oh, I can't STAND that feeling! My nails used to do that when I was a kid, or they still do it now when I wear acrylics for months and eventually take them off. It's such a yucky feeling isn't it?

Anyway, taking Calcium helps this. And Vitamin E pills. It just does it because you have weak nails due to not taking your vitamins or doing too many acrylic manicures. I think that's why, anyways. But if you make sure to eat healthy and take vitamins, it should get better. It's worked for me in the past to simply take Vitamin E pills, so I hope all ends up well for you too. =)

    What it

sounds like your describing is onycholysis, which is where the nail splits

off. There can be numerous things that cause this ranging from a skin

disease called psoriasis, to infections in the nails caused by yeast.

Also, there are things you may be doing to try and help this, but it may

have actually perpetuated it. Some people react to nail hardeners so that

the nail peels or splits. Also, the glue used for applying artifical nails

can cause nail problems. Other things include trauma to the fingernail bed

which at the base of the nail can have long term if not permanent effects

on the nail. And also, immersing your hands for long and numerous times a

day can soften and weaken the nail enough to cause it to split or peel.

When no other signs of skin disease are evident, onycholysis is most

frequently seen in women with long fingernails. With normal activity, the

extended nail inadvertently strikes objects and acts as a lever to pry the

nail from the nail bed. The cure for this is trimming the nails.

And finally, if it is simply brittle nails, there are several things

you can do since this is similar to dry skin. Almost 20% of the adult

population have this problem, so you're not alone. You may want to add

moisture to the nails. The moisturizers that contain alpha-hydroxy acid or

lactic acid such as Lac-Hydrin, help the most especially when applied at

bedtime and then putting on a glove or cotton sock so the moisturizer

doesn't rub off as easily. Also, B complex vitamins or specifically Biotin

(2.5mg/day and no more) may help. Good luck. Sorry this is so lang hope it helps!

What vitiams will help my nails to be stronger? My nails peel and split.?

Try using Zinc, L-Lysine, dl-Methionine, Vitamin B6, Biotin supplements. I know a place to obtain these if you're interested. Also, you can simply use a nail hardener. Bud
Calcium pills. Try caltrate, or simply drink more milk.
Try a complete multi vitamin as well as a B-Complex to accompany it!!

You also need to look at your diet. That can effect even your finger nails.
I take Hair, Skin and Nails( this is the actual name) by GNC. I like it, I have also taken Biotin (name of pill and the protein found in the hair and nails) in the past.

  • My dogs nails seem dry, brittle and are peeling, any reason why??

not enough nutrition... :)My dogs nails seem dry, brittle and are peeling, any reason why??
The answer to this question depends on exactly what is happening with

    the nails.

If you are seeing dry nails that crumble easily when they are trimmed,

but are not sloughing off, not causing pain or other discernible problems,

then there are lots of anecdotal recommendations for treatment. I am not

aware of any studies that show that any of these things actually work, but

    anecdotally they are recommended:

Gelatin administration is a common recommendation for treatment of

brittle nails. I have seen a fairly wide range of recommendations for the

amount of gelatin to give. For an 85 lbs. dog the total dosages would be 2 to 5

packages per day (Knox Gelatin (tm) is the most commonly recommended

brand name). I suspect that this is rarely helpful but haven't seen any

    reports of it being harmful.

Some sources recommend supplementing biotin when nails are brittle. I

can't recall whether I have seen a study in dogs but I know that in horses

there have been studies that haven't shown much benefit for hoof care, which

should be similar. The recommended dosage is around 5mg/kg (about 200mg

for your dog) of biotin per day, if you want to try this.

Zinc supplementation helps in some dogs. The usual dosage is zinc

gluconate 5mg/kg daily. This probably only works when there is a zinc deficiency,

although some dogs just seem to need more zinc. I don't think of this

as a really common problem but we have seen at least a couple of cases of

zinc deficiency in our practice over the years.

The best bet is probably to supplement with omega n3 fatty acids. This

is usually done using fish oil (3V Capsules tm) and giving 180mg/10lbs of

body weight per day, which is a pretty high dosage. For just dry nails a

lower dosage might be helpful but for the condition discussed next you would

    need the higher dosage.

If the nails are actually cracking back to the nail bed, if they are

falling off or if they are deformed, it is likely that there is a

medical cause for the problem. The most likely cause would be lupoid

onchodystrophy, followed by food allergies or other allergies,

ringworm, bacterial infections and immune mediated diseases. Except for the

ringworm and bacterial infections all of these conditions might respond to the

high end dosages of 3V Capsules. It is likely that your vet can give you

some idea of the possibility of an infectious cause following an

examination. My dogs nails seem dry, brittle and are peeling, any reason why??

Peeling oranges; tough on your nails?

is peeling an orange tough on your nails?Peeling oranges; tough on your nails?
It's not tough on my nails, it just turns them orange and makes them look gross. So I just clip them.

No biggie.Peeling oranges; tough on your nails?
    well.. it shouldnt be.

it sometimes hurts, but it wont damage your nails in any way im pretty sure..

Why can't I get my nailpolish not to chip and peel when I do my own nails at home?

Do I need primer, a certain topcoat or fake nails? Salon jobs damaged my nails so badly that I'm trying to avoid getting them done again. Why can't I get my nailpolish not to chip and peel when I do my own nails at home?
Well what i do is put on a coat of clear, then two layers of color, and a few layers of clear coats. It also helps just to have healthy nails without scratches in them and if you chew them, it chips the paint near the edge of the nail and lifts up the paint and makes it a lot easier to peel off. (I used to chew my nails. :-( Nasty habit)Why can't I get my nailpolish not to chip and peel when I do my own nails at home?
Try using polishes such as Essie, OPI or Chanel. Follow with base and top coat from the Essie brand, it works well.

Your polish is bound to chip easily, but these products work well longer.
yeah use a good topcoat or bottom coat or both

I like Sally Hansen Double Duty Base and top coat

my home mani lasted 2 weeks with this stuff, amazing and no chips!
Because for some reason only chinese ppl can do that lol other ppl can't ughhhh i widh i could do that!
Primer and a topcoat would be your best bet.

Why do my finger nails peel of every time i wash my hans?

I had this problem with 1 of my thumb nails the nail wasn't getting enough blood as soon as I started buffing it the nail stopped splitting and peeling.

I have rough, peeling toenails and my doctor said it is a zinc deficiency. Why are my finger nails so healthy?

It may only be showing in your toenails if they aren't as well taken care of ie. moisturized etc. But if he ruled out fungus, there probably isn't much you can do. Some people are just like that.I have rough, peeling toenails and my doctor said it is a zinc deficiency. Why are my finger nails so healthy?
Your toes are farther away than your finger tips. The are more of an extremity than your fingers. Also, you use your fingers, so they get stimulated and have more blood flow.

How do i get my nails really strong? They always peel and crack?

Im sick and tyred of having bad nails i need some help ive try-ed everything..How do i get my nails really strong? They always peel and crack?
First drink milk everyday. One of the reasons why nails get fragile is calcium deficiency.

Massage your nails with olive oil before you sleep and let the il stay overnight. It will help to make your nail get stronger, it has helped me. My nails were just like paper, will break with anything and used to get embarrasing sometimes.

But they are better with milk and olive oil usage.

Also have a healthy diet, most of the problems occur due to improper and unhealthy food habits. How do i get my nails really strong? They always peel and crack?

  • What causes skin peel on the fingers right below the nails?

I heard a while back that it's due to a lack of a certain vitamin in the body but I forgot which. Any idea? What causes skin peel on the fingers right below the nails?
I don;t know about the vitamin thing, I think you need to keep your hands moisterized. Use lotion on your hands regularly and work it really good around the fingernails.

Should I peel my finger nail off?

My nail got caught up in something yesterdaay while I was at work and

what ever it was kinda tore or rip a third of my nail from the fleshy part...I know it sounds gruesome...lol...anyway I put a band on it with the nail still over it cause i had to get back to work, a couple hours later I changed it (still at work)...so by the time I got home I was really tired and didnt feel like dealing with the pain of messing with it, so anywho this morning I went to try to get the torn part off but it is like kinda stuck or something, I'm scared that if I mess with it I may do something wrong, and I also dont want to mess with it if it is healing like that, What should I do?Should I peel my finger nail off?
I have found that when it comes to the finger nails like this it is best to leave it alone. I smashed my nail in a door and it turned a purple and felt like hell; well I just left it alone for a while, a month, and it started to look better, and just fell off. Now it is growing back is looking nice and healthy. I think your nail will end up fixing it's self. Just keep it clean!Should I peel my finger nail off?
Leave it alone for a week or so, keep it bandaged up so it don't resnag on something and make it worse. If in a week you can snip off the nail that is not attached to your finger and that should help with snagging. I have had several toe nails removed and it is real real painful so the finger can't be any better-I sorry!
If you don't care about pain, and an ugly nail, there's really not much that will happen besides a very slow annoying growing process.

Could lack of protein cause my nails and cuticles to crack and peel?

I don't eat meat like beef and chicken. I do however eat fish and seafood.

I know meat provides protein that help build and repair nails etc. But the skin around my nails are cracking and peeling is that because of protein deficiency?Could lack of protein cause my nails and cuticles to crack and peel?
You really should see your Physician to have blood work to see if you are low in protein.

If you do not eat much meat then you need to obtain your protein from other sources like beans, peas, nuts, or maybe protein powder.

Protein is really necessary for many different functions in your body so if you are low you are hurting your body. On the other hand to much protein is a strain on your kidneys and is dangerous.

My sister became a vegetarian to cure her lupus but she ate dried beans, dried peas and nuts every day for two of her meals and fish only three times a week for one meal and she stressed her kidneys. After having a simple blood test and giving a urine test they showed she had way to much protein in her body. The doctor had her lower her protein intake and her kidneys recovered.

Another thing that you might be low on is Biotin. Biotin also helps give you healthy nails as well as healthy hair.

I really think you should speak to your Physician to see if your blood levels are correct on all your vitamins, minerals and protein.
