Try cuticle lotion. Also try putting a heavy moisturizer on and sleeping with gloves on. Any peeling skin, snip it off with cuticle nippers right away.
Try rubbing Olive Oil on your nails and cuticles every night.
lotion always helps, don't pick at it or chew on it or whatever habit you or someone else might have haha

Peeling and flaking nails?

I am right handed and on my right hand my index and middle finger peel and flake extremely bad. Like last week my middle finger peeled all the way back to my cuticle. I have heard a number of reasons for this ranging from fungus to lack of vitamins. I want to know what the medical reason is for this happening and how can i fix it... I've tried pre natel vitamins, I've tried sally hansen triple strong, I've tried a number of other hardners as well and I just don't know what to do anymore. the rest of my nails are usually fine other than the occasional chip or crack...

Any suggestions? What is the medical reason for this happening?Peeling and flaking nails?
I'm thinking it's probably:

Onychorrhexis

Refers to Split or Brittle nails that also have a series of lengthwise ridges. It can be caused by chemicals, injury to the fingers, excessive use of cuticle solvents, nail polish removers. This condition may be corrected by softening the nails with a reconditioning treatment.

I have my nail clients use Sensitive %26amp; Peeling Nail Envy

Formaldehyde-free formula protects against peeling with antioxidant Vitamin E and Kukui Nut Oil, soothes sensitive nails with Aloe Vera.

I hope this helps you!Peeling and flaking nails?

is there anything that will clear it upThe skin around my nails always look rough and hard and look like its peeling?
when you're just going to stay at home for a down day, or perhaps at night, put lots of petroleum jelly and wear cotton gloves and keep them on for quite some time, like two hours at the least. works best overnight.

drink lots of water, exercise all that, and always moisturise, like put lotion on, concentrating on the areas of concern, especially like after washing your hands.

best! The skin around my nails always look rough and hard and look like its peeling?
    use hand/body moisturiser
    lofa sponge and moisterizer
Do not lick your fingers. Do not manipulate the area. A moisturizing+ vitamin A,D cream and more relaxation is my prescription.
rub some oil on them. for a while it really really helps and then use a really good hand moistureizer like vasoline intensive care

My nails peel. What can I do to stop them?

I wear nail polish all the time and it chips off really easy!!! GRRR... How can I stop the polish from chipping and the peeling of my nails? My nails peel. What can I do to stop them?
there are kinda of polish to use to make ur nails thicker and more strong.

they are ok but the real problem is something else

if ur nails are fragile and not strong, then it means u dont get enough calcium. so a way to stop the nail peeling (in the long run and the best way) is to raise ur calcium level. DRINK MILK!!!!!!!!My nails peel. What can I do to stop them?
I experience the same problem like you last time. As you are frequently wearing nail polish, your nails are subject to lack of 'oxygen' and the drying effect of nail polish. These tends to weaken your nails.

My advise would be to let your nails be free from the use of nail polish for a few months, at least 2-3 months, and take some calcium pills or even more dairy products.

If you still like the looks of polish, try using a nail buffer or just apply a clear polish. This way, when it chips, it wouldn't be so obvious and the polish can easily last you a week. Hence you do not need to use a remover so frequently.

Try also looking for a manicure pencil that you apply on your nails to 'thicken' or 'harden' them. You may get at any malls or salons. Good luck.
take a break from the nail polish for about 3-6 weeks, and wen you push ur cuticles back put a clear coat on them and put loation on your hands every day/!!
    well stop using nail polish
Sounds like you need a better bond between your nails and the polish. First off you should only remove your polish with an acetone free polish remover. This will make your nails stronger and prevent any damage.

I think a great product to prep your nails with is OPI's Chip Skip http://www.opi.com/trPremium.asp#3 it makes sure the surface of your nails is clean and oil free for the polish to adhere better.

You might even want to use a base coat for added strength. Creative makes a base coat called Stickey http://www.creativenail.com/prod_c_nail-鈥?/a> that actually feels a bit tacky after painted on.Finish with some Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat and your manicure will last for about a week.

You can get all these products from your local Ulta.
Use a top layer nail polish.

There are better options than nail polish, though. Products that make your nails shiny without drying them out and ruining them. :)
look into taking a multi-vitamin and get you some cuticle oil and rub that into your nails....stop using nail polish for a few months and get you a nail buffer and shine them up with the cuticle oil
after you polish your nails just put some clear nail polish on top of the other and you should not have any more problems
Don't work with your hands so much or you can by some clear nail polish thats ment to to harden your nails. I'm wearing some right now and it works great so go down to Albertsons, CVS or Save-On and get some.

Try a clear nail polish, i like OPI and Hard as Nails. This will help your nails recover and keep you from damaging them any further.

Why are my nails brittle and peeling? --> can that be related to my hair loss?

For several months now, my nails have become very weak, they always peel in layer and easily break. My nails also don't grow very fast, and this hasn't happened to me before =[

Also......while all of that is going on, i've been loosing a LOT of hair recently, when i wash my hair, when i brush SOO much hair falls out!!!

And lots of strands randomly fall out throughout the day and i feel them on the back of my arm (its the most annoying feeling ever!)

I try not to wash my hair too often (but it gets oily because of the heat and my body's tendency to over secrete oils in my scalp and then i have to!)

i leave it natural almost all the time (wavy)

Can these 2 be related? What can i do to stop all of this chaos?! i'm very worried!

    Extra Information:

    Im 16 (thats why i'm a bit paranoid) %26gt;.%26lt;

I don't take medicine for anything but i do take vitamins (multi, calcium, b-12...)

I'm not pregnant, and all that other stuff

I try to eat healthy everyday, lots of fruits and veggies

Please help!!!!Why are my nails brittle and peeling? --%26gt; can that be related to my hair loss?
    yes! it is possible....

掳anyway as we know hair loss can be caused by many different reasons! Find out the actual cause of hair loss! There are many causes of loss of hair such as stress, poor nutrition ,medications, thyroid dysfunctions, illness, fungal infections ,hormonal problems, to mention a few.

year ago I suffered from hair loss too and I started trying everything you can imagine to stop my hair loss.

the things that really worked for me was:

    1) Vitamin A - an anti-oxidant which promotes healthy production of sebum in the scalp;

    2) Vitamin E stimulates circulation. Good blood circulation in the scalp is important in keeping hair follicles productive. The 'B' vitamins contribute to melanin, which gives hair its healthy color and also stimulates blood circulation;

    3) massage is also beneficial. Massage stimulates circulation. As already noted, good circulation in the scalp keeps hair follicles active. Experts suggest a few minutes of daily head massage by hand. Circulation through massage may be improved by using a few drops of lavender or bay essential oil in an almond or sesame oil base with massage;

    4) Try rubbing your scalp with garlic juice, Onion Juice or Ginger Juice(you can either of one out of three, Do not mix any of two or three);

    5) also I used herbal treatment - TrichoZed

It is a good product that helps prevent hair loss and it is an FDA approved product. I think it is very important!

It worked and still works for me!

I do not know if any pharmacies carry TrichoZed but I do know that you should purchase it directly from the manufacturer and read more about the product here http://www.trichozed.com/?id=fc7a24

It enhances hair growth by blocking DHT (Dihydrotestostrone) - a major cause of hair loss!

    good luck!

not only my and my husband`s own personal experienceWhy are my nails brittle and peeling? --%26gt; can that be related to my hair loss?
Hi. You need to go to the doctor and have blood tests done. You could have low iron, or a Thyroid problem. Both of these can be detected in a simple blood test. The exact same thing happened to me a year ago. My nails started to peel off in layers, and became very thin and weak. Shortly after that, i started to lose a lot of hair ( it fell out constantly ). I got scared, and went to the doctor. She did blood work, and found that i had a Thyroid problem. Don't wait too long. Your body is trying to tell you something isn't right. I lost most of my hair from a Thyroid problem. It's not a fun thing to go through. Hopefully, that's not what is happening to you, but since you have 2 of the symptoms of a Thyroid problem, it's better to get checked to make sure. Best of luck to you :-)

  • Finger skin cracks, nails are brittle, peeling, air bubbles..?

For about half a year now My fingers have been really dry, my nails are brittle, the skin around my fingers peel, the corners of my skin by the nail cracks, air bubbles form, dead skin forms under my nail and my nail is really bumpy. I been to the doctor twice already at walk ins and they didn't even take the time to look and listen and said it was eczyma. the first doc gave me hydrocortosome or something and it didn't work so a month later i went back to see a different doctor who said it was eczyma was well and gave me a ';stronger form of hydrocortosome';. a month later it is still not better. I've used all types of lotions to try to get it to heal like aveeno and dry skin lotions. This morning i woke up with a bunch of air bubbles on my right finger that has a crack and i dont know what to do. the docs don't take their time to listen. what if its a fungus or infection? anyone heard of such thing?Finger skin cracks, nails are brittle, peeling, air bubbles..?

    Peeling skin around toe nails?

the skin just beyond my toe nails is peeling, It doesn't look pretty but just barely noticeable, I do have eczema if that could have anything to do with it.Peeling skin around toe nails?
Yes it could, but it also just might be from wearing damp socks, this causes skin to peel on the feet.Peeling skin around toe nails?
you could have atletes foot... like the ans with the wet socks... athletes foot is a fungus and like other fungi it needs moisture to grow but idk... id see a doctor about that

Nail polish chips/peels after one day...?

I make sure to clean %26amp; file my nails before polishing. I wipe them down with alcohol as I've read this helps get rid of oils on your nails, then I use a base coat, then 2 coats of my nail polish, allowing it to dry in between coats, then a top coat. I use Seche Vite... it's the FASTEST drying top coat I've found, love that it won't even dent after about 10 minutes, but it isn't the most durable. My polish ends up chipping %26amp; actually just peeling off usually in one day. The longest I can get it to go is two days, but no more than that without having to touch up.... Any suggestions??Nail polish chips/peels after one day...?
For some people OPI lasts long and for other people it doesn't last long. For me, it lasts like 2 days. Maybe buy a bottle of OPI and try that for a while. I guess it varies from person to person. I use Zoya. It doesn't have harsh chemicals and it lasts pretty long for me.Nail polish chips/peels after one day...?
yeah i tried a cheap topcoat and they really dont work. its best to get a good one. also, use Stickey by Creative; its a basecoat that really helps keep nailpolish on longer! my nailpolish will stay on with no chips for about 4-5 days; it eventually will start to chip just because we use our hands for everything, but i can leave the nailpolish on for like 8-10 days without it looking totally awful.
well the alcohol can remain on your nails and can cause it to come off so try to just wash your hands and not use so many coats that don't help either
Use OPI its expensive but worth it!
Sally Hansen coat is good my nail polish last like 1 week

Howcome the skin around your finger nails normally peels off, and why does it hurt so much?

Hangnails are usually caused by dry skin, although deficiency in zinc has been related to it. It hurts if you peel it off due to the numerous nerves there, and can lead to paronychia, a painful infection.Howcome the skin around your finger nails normally peels off, and why does it hurt so much?
ITS A HANGNAIL ./ YOU GET HTEM WHEN UR SKIN IS DRY

AND LIFE SUCKS.. THAST WHY HTEY HURTHowcome the skin around your finger nails normally peels off, and why does it hurt so much?
i bite mine off, but its because of dry skin at the tip. its painful because the depth of the peeling (like a papercuts) its about where the nerve endings are, moisturising should help
same with me, anyone no how 2 stop it? or like what 2 do wen u get it
mate, u've got dry skin or some vitamin deficiency, u need to drink 2 liters of water daily and take vitamins once a day, u'll see some improvement in 1 week!!

Yeah, your sister just bite in her nails. It's always been like that and that's the way it will ten to one stayI can not keep my finger nails long!!! how do i keep from biting and peeling them?
rub onion or gaarlic on them, the taste is awful
My sister in law has always bitten her nails really bad. The only thing that keeps her from biting them is to get fake acrylic nails. They arent too expensive, and it saves her the pain. Good luck!

Make nail polish look salon perfect, professional, and not peel?

No cash for salon and really need professional look that lasts. Have new supplies but not getting results needed.Make nail polish look salon perfect, professional, and not peel?
It depends on how much experience u have in doing ur nails...

The easiest ways to do the (almost) perfect nails (not even salons can do u perfectly) are:

    - use an expensive nail enamel/polisher, because it is true they contain ingredients that make the nail polisher last longer %26amp; look perfect + may even influence strengthening of ur nails.

    - just keep ur nails clean, than file %26amp; shape ur nails %26amp; at the end buff %26amp; polish ... u get perfectly shiny nails in no time %26amp; don't need 2 polish them... I am doing this lately cos I have no time 2 polish my nails every 3-4 days cos I like darker colors which fade %26amp; lose brightnes faster, and I too like the 'perfect look'...

    - or use the 2 or 3 step french maniqure - I believe u can buy those in parfumeries where u live...Make nail polish look salon perfect, professional, and not peel?
Here's the instruction that me and my friends use when we wanna primp! it's basically what they do at the manicures places, but you can do it yourself! :)

Go to the doc. Your mouth is hugely dirty, so was your nail and so you infected it.I had bit my left hand middle fingted taking ure nail during which a bit of the skin was peeled off and the sa?
Keep taking the antibiotics daily with a full glass of water per dose.

Drink PLENTY of fluids to help keep down any fever.
Your girlfriend may have had an infection down below or just general bacteria got into the wound. Its never a good idea to have sexual relations with an open wound. You may even of passed an infection to her. I would wait until you have finished your course of anti biotics before you seek more advice. Only your doctor can advise. In the mean time, Avoid finger application with the wife lol or use your other hand.

How Can I Stop Biting/Peeling My Nails?

For as long as I can remember I have had this horrible habit of nail biting. (like since I was 4 or 5) I have tried so hard over the years to stop biting all together, but I have failed many times. I have gone through periods where I will stop biting for a while (like maybe a month or two... I'll put that nasty tasting crap on my nails, or get acrylic nails put on. But I always find a way around those methods. I will desensitize myself to the taste of the crappy tasting polish, and if I have acrylics on, I'll just bite my toenails instead. The main reason why I bite my nails so much is because I like the taste of keratin. (yeah, that's kinda gross, but hey, I'm being honest here.) I also like having stuff in my mouth. I was a huge thumb sucker when I was little and that was also really hard to quit. Another habit that I have that I really need to stop is I really need to stop peeling my nails. Because I'm trying so hard to not bite my nails, they're starting to grow longer. And sometimes they grow uneven and have ridges on the tip of them. I don't want them to feel rough so I have to peel off the part that is uneven. And then when I peel off the uneven part, sometimes I'll peel off more than I mean to, so then I have to make them straight and even. (I suck at working a nail file) Then the habit will get so bad that I will purposely peel off layers of my nails, just to taste the keratin. I really wish I could stop this nasty habit of nail biting and nail peeling. I really want to have pretty long nails without having to worry about spontaneously peeling them off. Please help! Thanks! How Can I Stop Biting/Peeling My Nails?
just think about what can be under those nails..

when you bite it, you can be biting boogers, butt, scabs, the old man on the strees butt after he scratched it then spent the dollar he grabbed next.

SCWIDHow Can I Stop Biting/Peeling My Nails?
Buy a buffer -- one of those with numbered sides -- Sally Beauty has a ton of different ones. Bufff your nails instead of picking at them everyday. Buffing makes them stronger and will fade away the ridges into nothingness. The peeling can be caused by an allergy to something you've put on your nails.
the best way to help not stop just by like sun flower seeds or little bite sized treats to take you away from thinking about it like and after a while you will get used to the new habit trust me i had the same problem
when i got my braces on i had to stop biting becuase i couldn't get my nail to my teeth!!!

but sometimes that's not the case

try hot sauce on your fingers

that's what we did on my sister

    hope it helpm =]
well, to stop the biting buy the clear nail polish that tastes bad so that if you try biting them it tastes bad. it worked for me.

    ~NiCoLe~
try putting layers like 10 of tape on your fingers and toes. Then try to hold yourself back.
    buy some nail clippers.
I HAD THE SAME NAIL PROBLEMM ! wellll, my cousin who is well in her twenties, showed me her nails and they looked beautiful, she use to bite her nails.but then grew them out. i hated my nails but since i was on vacation and was having so much fun, i didn't bite my nails. when i got home from vacation, i painted my nails. and i kept re painting them even if the nail polish was chipping. %26amp; my nails are still growing and yesterday i painted them red and boy do they look gorgeous! try to keep your mind off things and enjoy life. buy tons of nail polish and nail polish remover, and whenever you seem bored give your self a nail make over.! and OH YEAH; whenever i felt the urge to bite my nails, i bought this moisturizing hand cream that smells really goood; pineapple mango; and every time i feel like biting my nails i apply this one my hands and naills. i take this lotion every where with me!now whenever i look at my pretty nails, i never want to bite them again, i want to grow them out and have healthy pretty nails, have fun %26amp; good luckkkk . %26lt;3 hopefulllyy i helpped .
there is special nail varnish you can buy in a pharmacy, and you can barely notice it on your nails but it tastes horrible...

you can also buy cotton gloved too... to wear before you go to bed (incate you bite your nails as you sleep)

me and my brother used to bite our nails... my brother stopped because my mom promised to buy him a little moterbike (you know the little ones for little kids, he was 9) but I stopped because I saw a guy on a bus and he looked like he meant business (suit, tie, black shoes... business-like xP lol) and then he started biting his nails... the site was gross/funny/and everything in between.

though I guess that was my motervation... the nail polish helped too :)... and the new laptop xP lol

    ________________edit______________

the nail peeling... my nails also peel... (i didnt get what on earth you were talking about untill i read the additional details)

just keep trimming them a little and then there wont be those little cracks... also you might be not getting enough vitamins... you need more b vitamins... :)

    hope that helps :)
Your nails are probobly not always very clean, especially when you are in public places. try chewing yummy gum :)

I used to peel my nails all the time. the best thing to do is keep nail polish on them which helps them keep from peeling, and when they do file or cut them so that you dont ending up ripping too much off. believe me i hate when my nails peel but its best not to rip it off.
Get acrylic or gel on your nails. It's too hard to bite through them and peel them. Easy fix. I have the same problem. I bite my nails and they're weak and break easily. Now I have acrylic and they're growing. I found out that my nails actually grow fast. It's not expensive if you go to the right place and you only need a fill every 3 weeks which is around $15. So try it

I need help with peeling my nails?

My nails have gotten way too short. I kept trying to get them to look longer, so over time, they got peeled farther and farther from the end of my finger. I think that the skin that the nail's attached to got peeled away from the nail. Sorry if this doesn't sound very clear... I'm confused myself kinda =]. Before I peeled my nails, the beginning of the whitest part (pointing towards body) would have been shorter than it would be now if i grew it out to the same point. Basically the start of the white got peeled back more.

Please help me with this. I'm sick of having ugly nails!

Thanks!I need help with peeling my nails?

I've been getting manicures for years now and my biggest gripe was that I never was able to keep my polish from chipping for more than a few hours. I decided to try going to a spa instead of the Asian nail salons and the products they used are wonderful! My nail polish lasted for days so I called them up and asked what products they used on me. They used Orly Bonder for the base coat...two coats of a good polish...they carry OPI or Essie...and Creative Super Shiny Top Coat. I loved my manicure so much that I went out and bought my own bottles for when I can't afford their expensive manicures.

have u tried painting dem white, as a base coat, and then painting dem the colour u want..

or try something from the sally hansen range, they have stuff 4 a wide range of problems..
try buffing ur nails first that creates an even and smooth surface for the nailpolish to stay on. im sure in a salon that they put a top coat on and everything but try experimenting with different topcoats that should help the nailpolish not to chip. good luck
Always apply a clear coat on top of the colored polish.
Dont pick at them! DUR DUR DUR!!
Hmmm, sounds like you are using Orly Bonder base coat, and I am sure at the salon they make sure your nails are clean first. I can only speculate, but do you have ';eggshell nails'; (nails that are very weak and thin. Nails bending and flexing would be a major cause for chipping and peeling. Their are some products out there (Naitiques and Nail Tek) that are designed to treat nails with varied conditions. I think formula III is for eggshell nails. Once your nails get stronger use the Bonder base coat, two coats of color and at least one coat of Seche Vite quick dry top coat. Apply a fresh top coat every other day.
what you can get is this new item from covergirl i think and nail polish but it not wet. you find the color you want and its sticky on one side and you just pop em on and perfect nails no mess up or chips or peeling of.
Soak and file your nails before you apply the base coat. Then apply two coats of the nail polish. Followed by a clear top coat and the nail polish will stick to your fingernails.
try applying the polish directly to your clean nails.

Other products, oils or cremes will create an unevent or slippery surface so the varnish might not adhere properly.

And if you apply it too thickly, it can easily chip off.
try workshop nail polish i have the same issue cus i bite my nails and even if i bite them that studd does not come off and do not put any thign under it on top may be ok but underneither is a nono
try this Sally Hansen nail polish stuff....you can even buy it at your grocery store..that's where i buy mine..=]

Peeling, Brittle, Nails, and Cracking Skin?

I'm trying to find some info for my mom. Recently her nails have become very brittle and they are peeling. You can actually peel the top layer off.

Also she gets huge cracks in the skin around the nail tip, on each side of the nail.

The Dr. says that it's no fungus or anything like that. She has tried everything we can think of - cremes, lotions, oils, and expensive nail polishes (OPI Nail Strengthener).

If anyone has ideas on how to help the peeling nails, and especially how to help the Cracked skin around the nail, please answer.

ThanksPeeling, Brittle, Nails, and Cracking Skin?
From the symptoms that you have listed I would suspect a nutritional deficiency OR for some reason nutrients are be ill-absorbed in her body due to some medical condition.

First, I would exam her diet - is it adequate?, has she recently went on any fad diets that could be the culprit?, Is she taking a daily multi-vitamin?

Second, I would suggest that she go back to the doctor for a blood test that includes a vitamin %26amp; mineral check. They will test for the levels of nutrients in her body - Biotin, all of the B-vitamins, protein, and omega-3 fatty acids all play a vital role in repair of skin/hair/nail growth %26amp; tissue.

If the symptoms persist it would be wise to see another doctor for a second opinion..Peeling, Brittle, Nails, and Cracking Skin?
First treat the cracks with something like Neosporin. Once everything has healed try a medicated lotion at night with some gloves and sleep that way. Burt's Bees makes some good stuff.
Try this its fantastic,it works like magic(with me).my skin is totally renewed my hands are soft and my nails look healthy and the skin around the nails has stopped pealing,i cant promise you anything though cause different people react differently with different treatments, but try it anywys its called super dew luscious hydrating massage cream with anti aging sepilift complex.goodluck with your mom.
I think your mom is suffering from lack of calcuim. Why don't you get that checked? Surface creams and lotions are just temporary. The real problem is from the inside. Get that checked and see if her calcuim levels are okay. You did not mention how old your Mom is? Women have a tendency to deplete calcuim from their body. Many factors can also affect the calcium absorption in the body. Avoid the local off the shelf creams and consult your doctor or a skin specialist. Don't ignore this.
Its winter, that was just the case of some dry skin that got worse. You should go in to get your self an oil manicure first step, there about 10 bucks but worth it! that should soften you up, but alway lotion every time you even wash your hands!
This what i use for cracked skin- Cuticle oil

My mom uses - Nutragena instant nail enhancer- for her nails
I have this same problem. For the nails I added a calcium suppliment to my diet (I'm lactose intolerant so I can't drink mild and such), this helped majorly with the peeling and brittle nails.

For the dry cracking skin which is a major issue for me since I have to use latex gloves many times throughout the day along with alcohol based hand sanitizers which dry skin out badly, I started using Curel Continuous Comfort many times throughout the day even though it is a 24 hour lotion. This has helped drastically with the appearance and feel of my hands, so much so that I started using it as an all over lotion.

D, aa batteries can be save longer, use nail polish on the head then peel off when ready to use?

Won't make any difference. The electrical energy is produced by chemical action within the battery. If the battery is being stored, their is a very small leakage current due to the makeup of the battery. Coating the ends will not change how the battery works internally. Most alkaline batteries have a shelf life of close to 5+ years anyways, with some high end alkaline's lasting more than 10 years.D, aa batteries can be save longer, use nail polish on the head then peel off when ready to use?
really i learn somthing new everydayD, aa batteries can be save longer, use nail polish on the head then peel off when ready to use?
    I never knew that.

    Try taking a women's multivitamin.

Also eat more protein. I found this really helped my nails and several friends have too.

I tried jello a long time ago but it did not seem to help.

U need more vitamins in your food, I have the same problem and my doctor told me that is due to lacking in a lot of vitamins and minerals in my food.

    Why don't u use a fake nails!
You should try pre-natal vitamins...I know it sounds strange but it works wonders for your hair and nails!! You can get them at any drug store and they are great for you. The only down side is that they can make you feel sick to your stomach so take them at night! I had my twin boys over a year ago and I still take them! Hope this helped.

    Nikki
Well, Nails are made up of the same proteins as your hair and teeth and bones, if you see the same type of mal-nutrition in your hair then maybe you should see your doctor! If its just your nails then you might want to try a multi-vitamin for women, if you can find one just for hair and nails that might also work! If you want to try a more natural aproach then maybe you should drink milk regularly or eat a variety of nutritional foods! Hope this helps. (did for me)
you are deficient in vitamins and minerals this shows its self in our nails and hair try eating balanced healthy food or ask your doctor
mine were the same way, flimsy, always bent or brook so id end up bitting them off,

then i stoped going to the nail salon and now they are strong and hard and getting longer (lol) seriously..i always put on a top glossy coat just to keep them hard and you can put the top coat on the underneath of your nail this makes it stronger too.
It could be your nutrition. all these body out side symptom normally comes from inside. Watch your diet and eat more healthy like fruits and veggies, do a lot of water, Kelp, Magnesium, Calcium, B-12 are very important key factor.
I know how you feel, I've been there. My problem was clearly psychological because it started to happen right after the death of my father eleven years ago. It went away, in time as I was healing eventually from his loss...If you are streesed and worn out inside it is common, as it is loosing hair or have it fade to white...Now if the psychological factor is put aside, and everything is ok and i hope it is ok...Keep on using nail hardeners, drink milk, eat cheese and yogurt, use raw olive(keratine-vital for nails) in your meals. Try to consume food with a decent amount of calcium in other words. Also keep it polished with at least two layers of nail polish, for about 20 days and check the results. You might be surprised...Good luck!!!

My nails peel and break any advice?

I have tried one type of calcium from sallys

They didnt break as much however the peeling was still a problem

Any advice? My nails peel and break any advice?
    Here are some nail tips

NEVER file your nails in a back %26amp; fourth motion, this causes your nails to split or fray. File from corner to center. You should also be sure not to use a metal file.

Try Sally Hansen's advanced hard as nails, used as a base %26amp; top coat

Use colors that have either a hardening formula or a strengthening formula. You polish remover should also have strengtheners in it.

If your hads are going to be in water or you'll be dealing with chemicals wear protective gloves.

If you need anymore help just ask or visit my forum:

Try drinking Knox Gelatin in a warm beverage. It works and I bet your mom and maybe your grandma used it.
You need to be taking a multi vitamin with calcium.
eat egg white wich is rich in calcium,,,, umm then apply a mixture of warm olive oil n lime juice [little] 2 ur nails daily
Stop wetting your nails with water as much as possible.
Everyone is different, the best thing you should do is try different products. Try one for at least a week if that doesn't work then try another one for another week until you find a nail product that works. There are so many out there now adays you should find one that works for you.
    eat more protein
It's how you file and a dire lack of moisture.

Only file nails after they've been washed or soaked. Dry nails are brittle, moist nails are pliable.

File from UNDERNEATH the nail, not of the surface. This takes a lot longer and you can only file in one direction rather than seasawing.

Moisturize your cuticles multiple times a day and massage the cream from the tip of the nail back toward the first knuckle.

Wear a top coat to protect the surface of the nail.

Don't expect results for several months, until the nail entirely grows out from the nail bed.
    for nail care tips:

use orange skin and scrub it,
Eat gelatin - jello- makes nails harder.
go to where you get your nail polish and there should be a clear polish called nail hardner........
wat u can do iz put on 2 coatz of clear nail polish, and let them dry then u hav to stay away from anything that will break them...hey it works for me.
    Eat more carrots.
    cut when it grow...

    don't keep....
you can try using red nail polish overnight and remove it in the morning.
Sally Henson nail repair is the best

Everytime i paint my nails, the nailpolish peels off the same day, what can i do to prevent this?

it only happens with my fingernails, my toes stay just fine!Everytime i paint my nails, the nailpolish peels off the same day, what can i do to prevent this?
before you put on any polish/basecoat put some nail polish remover on a cotton ball and swipe it over your nails. this will remove any oils, lotions, etc that may be on your hands and aren't washed off with soap. then put a coat of a clear basecoat, then 2 coats of polish, and finally a a topcoat to seal the color. this is what salons and nail salons do when you get a manicure.Everytime i paint my nails, the nailpolish peels off the same day, what can i do to prevent this?
Use a good quality basecoat. Don't skimp on quality because cheap ones will not work as well as the better basecoats. A clear nail polish is not the same thing as a basecoat, and will not work well as a basecoat, or as a topcoat either.

Then apply two thin coats of polish. Finish with a topcoat. Make sure your nails are free of all oils by scrubbing them with either acetone, or nail polish remover before applying the basecoat. Also, pushing back your cuticles will help to prevent peeling of the polish. It is best to start with totally clean, oil free nails.
this happens to me all the time it makes me feel like pulling my hair out of my head...from all this work i just get a peel!!??

    IS IT THE NAIL BRAND?

it depends but nail polish is ';sopuse'; to be a strong paint for the body...anyways i dont buy cheap nail polish from the dollor store..but expensive polish can chip anyhow, however i have been noticeing this (LOL)

    WHAT TRICK SHOULD I DO?

I have ';discovered'; clear nail polish works well but it only last 2 weeks..(pretty good!) but have you noticed in the spa the polish stays for a long time well i know why....they use this realy strong chemical or such as clear nail polish that is strong...sometimes you can ask them where to buy it sometimes they have shelves to buy things too.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I CANT HAVE THOSE THINGS SOMETHING A LOW PRICE!

ways to keep it for a month:

    (1).put 2 coats of polish

    (2). let it dry {air dry}

(3). put 3 thin layers of clear polish

    (4). avoid any water activities...

MY TOES R FINE WHEN THEY GET PAINT BUT MY FINGERS JUST THROWS THEM OFF!!

haha i think you got the case of stubborn nails!! (just kidding jk!) lets get real **coughs** (^_^)

sometimes nails have hidden oils in the microscopic pores in them...sometimes people they wash heir finger WELL srub them and make them realy dry. Take a towel dry them (of course) take a blower dry ur nails some more to make them realy dry. after all that take a towel and dry ur nail again and see what happens next.

WHAT HAPPENS IF THAT DOES NOT WORK?

Take the clear nail polish and apply it on...let it dry (blow on it) and apply the color on...after you did dry {air dry} them apply a thin layer of clear and see how the difference makes your nail shimmer.

    **hope this works**
well, here's what you do. you put on sevrel coats make sure you wait till the previos one dries first . then, put on a few clear coats to make you nails stronger and the nail polish will stay on longer. don't put to many cots or it will just peel off!! hope i helped!!
Be sure your clean your nails first and try Sally Hansen polish. I've found many polishes either chip, peel or rub off whenever you touch anything. Don't use more than 3 coats. Usually 2 colored coats, top with a clear coat. Good luck.
You probably have too much oil on your nails try cleaning them first with nail polish remover to remove any surface oil and be sure you are using a Nail Lacquer as opposed to polish since it adheres better and lasts longer. Good Luck!
Fist u should buy a good nail polis, the cheap ones usually always will peel or chip, also u should try putting a clear top coat over the nail polish this helps to protect the the nail polish from everyday wear and tear. Good Luck :)
Keep your nails short - it peels off because the nails on fingers flex a lot. Also use base coat and take tablets for strengthening your nails.
Put an overcoat of clear nailpolish on.

Or do several layers of your actual colour.
I read that painting your nails sideways rather than up and down helps the paint stay on longer
Try using a clear top coat
be careful of ur nails and use a base and topcoat
Use Milani. www.milani.com. They sell it at CVS. It lasts.

I have tried everything to strengthen my thin, peeling, chipping nails-polish only lasts 1 day.?

You probably are washing you hands to much in harsh soaps and hot water. You should soothe your hands with lotion, rub a little amount of lotion all over your cuticles and rub it in your nails. About a day later apply 2 things of nail polish. Don't apply nail polish over the lotion, have to let it soak in. Also you can apply lotion like an hour after applying nail polish!I have tried everything to strengthen my thin, peeling, chipping nails-polish only lasts 1 day.?
Try drinking jello water it helps alot. Or you can start taking prenantal pills. These of course will take a little while to kick in but the are well worth it. I believe that ';Sally Hansen'; has nail stregtheners you can use for now. You can get them at Walgreens, CVS, or any store like that.I have tried everything to strengthen my thin, peeling, chipping nails-polish only lasts 1 day.?
Sally Hanson has a really good nail strengthener. I had the same problem and used it for a few weeks and now my nails grow great. Also something else you might try is taking a 1 a day vitamin that also will help strengthen your nails and help fight the winter season.

I have the same thing. It's the oil that is naturally in your nails.

Nothing you can buy or do at home works. I have tried it all.

Go to a nail salon and get them to put that two part stuff on your nails - the stuff they do with fake nails but just tell them to put it on your nails without the ';tips';.

For some reason if you put that stuff on your nails, nail polish will last for at least two weeks; if it is done properly.

You will have to keep going back for a ';fill'; every couple of weeks but your nails will look so much better and polish will stay on.
Just went through the same thing.

Lay off the nail polish for a while. Cut your nails.

Now - Drink more water, Yes nails need hydration, You should drink 8 glasses a day, Take a multi vitamin.

You can even take a pre natal vitamin which wil strengthen hair and nails. Use a moisturiser for hands and nails ( can get it anywhere ). If you do dishes or have to be in contact with water wear gloves. After a week or two your nails should show improved health, Then treat yourself to a manicure :)

Use tiny ammount of petroleum jelly ( Vaseline) on each nail and the cuticle. This will also help to moisturise and repair it.
Silica, before i starting taking it i was so ashamed of my nails now they are long strong i dont even have to put polish on i just buff them.it takes about 2 weeks to see a difference but its worth it when you can be proud of your hands again.Buy it from Gnc etc. It is also good for your hair and skin bonus.
Get them Professionally done and see if its not just the nail polish you are using! and if it still chips after getting them done get fake nails!

i had that same problem until i got braces and i stopped.
I do the same.. get acrylic nails. Once I get it done, I stop because I don't want to pay again.
Apply clear nail polish. It'll make them shiny and prevent you from peeling at your nails. Then again you might start scratching off the polish for fun.
Yes I can tell you how to stop. Get artificial nails put them over your real nails. If you don't want to go that route... rub a garlic clove over your nails, this smell will keep you from doing this.
Instead of picking buff them. they sell them for a couple bucks at drug stores. it will make it so your nails dont peel...no peeling, no picking...and it keeps your hands are busy.
Ok There a special nail polish for that so all you have to do is buy it you can ingd it at wallmart target or walgreens maybe even rite aid but i know definitley wallmart and yeah its usually a clear color and sometimes its clear but has color oh and when your bored in class just pass notes LOL Just Kidding!!No but seriously thats what i do DONT GET CAUGHT!!! Are you Anemic? Mine do that all the time, but I think it's mostly because I bite them. Bad habit and gross, I know. But I've also been anemic in the past, so it's either one of the two.

eww... that sounds like it hurts. they grow back eventually.
well, its quite rare for that to happen but some people do get lucky. it really depends on the age of the person that happens to. if the person is still quite young ie not a teenager, they still have a chance but if the person is a teenager might as well forget it, just fix a nail. sorry. or you could hope you ar one of the lucky ones.
    mine never did.

If both acrylic and gel. nails both peel and lift after two days. Are there any types I can wear?

Both the acrylic and the gel nails lift completly from the base of my nail forward leaving only the tips attached to my nails. I love the look but my nails will not grow strong and beautiful. Any suggestions? If both acrylic and gel. nails both peel and lift after two days. Are there any types I can wear?
Well stop putting on the fake nails if you want healthy nails.

Make sure your nail tech knows that your gels or acrylics aren't staying attached. Maybe she's not using the nail dehydrator sprays? Have you tried changing nail salons to see if a different tech has better luck? It'd really be best if you just avoided fake nails and used a nail strengthener to get your nails into shape, and take vitamins (pre-natal) and calcium supplements to help.

The best thing I've ever used for my nails is the Vaseline hand and nail lotion applied several times throughout the day and especially after your hands have been wet. I wish I knew a nail polish that didn't peel off easily. ;-)
Try OPI Nailenvy for stronger nails, then OPI polishes in general. Remember to always use a good base and topcoat, then repaint the topcoat every other day for best results in preventing chipping. If you do that, and you're gentle to your nails (i.e. no biting, picking, using them as tools) your nails won't break easily and your polish should last about a week to a week and a half.
i personally adore o.p.i. and it's so far, to me, the best brand of nail polish brand. ever. it's used in many salons and it doesn't peel off as easily as most other brands.

also, O.P.I. has the cutest names for its colors like ';Greece just blue me away,'; ';Cha-Ching Cherry,'; and ';ChicaGo get a manicure!'; and makes nail polishing even more fun!

    :]
Opi and essie nail polishes are the best for me. I buy them at my at Ultra Beauty salon where my sister works. They are really good. Plus there are tons of colors to choose from.

Way back I had fantastic nails, then for about three years two of them were peeling. I bought all sorts of stuff, then I discovered Sally Hansens ';Nailgrowth Miracle';. Its in a gold bottle, I put a very thin coat on every other night and tried not to remove it for about two weeks. The two iffy nails stopped peeling and I now wear Nailgrowth as a base coat under coloured nail varnish and I also use it as a top coat. If possible just touch your nail varnish up for as long as possible, remover can damage your nails.
    Nail envy is really effective

you can buy it from asos

There are vitamins that are specially for hair and nail growth. Try them. Also, in the meantime, try the Sally Hansen Hard as Nails polish. Just apply a new coat three days. It works great!
Get a product from boots or superdrug or a shop like that. If you go into boots they do your makeup im sure they sort your nails out as well.
Eat gelatin - a jelly cube once a day will do the trick.
Sally Hansen stuff in the gold bottle - quite pricey but very very good.

My nails keep peeling and breaking...what gives?

I used to have a serious issue when I was younger with biting my nails. It has just been recently (I'm 23 so for like the last 2 years) I have made a very conscience effort to not bite and really keep up with the polish to divert my habit. However, within the past 8 or so weeks my nails are constantly peeling and breaking, they have become so weak which has never been the case. Nothing really has changed, well except that I have started eating fish and chicken again after 6+ years of being a vegetarian but if anything I thought that would make them stronger. I still eat mainly the same just once or twice a week I'll have one of them in a meal. But other than that I cannot come up with a reason this sudden change in my nails has occured. I mean it's really really bad to where I have to cut my nails all the way down becuase they peel so far down. Any ideas on why this is happening? Any ideas on what I can do to stop it?

I'm anemic too if that counts for anything, have been though for 5 yearsMy nails keep peeling and breaking...what gives?
Being anaemic can have a knock on effect on things like nails, few points that might help:

Increase your calcium intake (milk, yoghurts, cheese) as nails thrive on calcium

Eat jelly cubes (straight from the pack if you can). Gelatine also contains stuff that your nails love.

Sally Hansen make an excellent product called Diamond Strength it's a clear lacquer (so immediately thickens/hardens the nail when its on) but also contains stuff that will help your nails grow stronger).

Obviously if it is pretty bad you should also ask your GP for help.My nails keep peeling and breaking...what gives?
Ur nails r probably thin and weak. Mine used to b just like that. Go to target and but the Sally Hanson Hardwrap nail polish. It comes in a little blue clearish bottle, and the nail polish is clear. just put it on, and every time it starts to chip off, put more on. Do this a 3-5 times (thats how long it took mine) and then they will stop doing that.
you can ask a doctor that the best idea :) i am sure he can hep u
Try putting a nail hardener on your nails.
    put polish on them

My nail polish peels off easy soon after i paint them?

My nail polish never stays on. i use sally hansen for the bottom coat and the top coat. any nail polish color, i buff my nails every once in a while. the polish starts to peel of within one to two days. any tips, and when i shower the color comes off too. My nail polish peels off easy soon after i paint them?
Every time I paint my nails I use a Bonder first. You can find a Bonder at any beauty supply store that has nail supplies will have it. It work so good. Apply a layer of the nail bonder to clean dry nails. Then a thin layer of the polish. Let it dry completely then apply another thin layer of polish. After the second layer is dry apply a layer of clear top coat. It also helps to put the polish on the edge of the nail (like if you were to tap your nail on the table, the part that makes the contact with the table) this makes it harder for water to get up under the polish. My nail polish peels off easy soon after i paint them?
Don't have hot showers cool water keeps them hard.

and also make sure you put on a top coat if the ones you are using now i suggest you try a different nail polish.

and don't over do your nails sometimes let your nails have a rest.

and make sure after you have put nail polish on and your finished and it starts coming off, take all of it off.
If you want your nail polish to stay on for longer without chipping off i would recommend getting more high end stuff. It may be more pricey but worth it if your worried about your nails. If you go to a nail technician they will probably be able to recommend or sell you some good polish.
    I can suggest two things.

    1) try another type of nail polish.

    2) try apply two clear coats to hold the color on.

    good luck.
Try putting a thinner layer on. putting to much will make it easy for water to get under the paint and will cause it to pill of easily
    Have a professional do it.
    O.P.I is really good.

I've worked at a nail salon and we used that.
try putting a clear varnish over your normal colour

What brand polish are you using? It depends on that as well.

My nails are peeling so bad (SAHM)?

I am 26 y.o. and changing diapers, rinsing plates, making food, and basically touching water all day - but try to do it at little as possible! I take 1 quick shower a day. And getting a dishwasher helped a lot. But the tips of my nails are peeling and the top layer of the tips has come off. If I accidentally bang a wall, etc, it will be all smashed up and I have to peel it off or it'll hang. I tried nail hardeners/strengtheners but eventually it must come off and the alcohol removers further weaken my nails. I am trying cuticle oil right now, but honestly there's a lot of damage. I will start to wear gloves while cleaning around the house.

FYI: I have sensitive skin too. I use Curel Sensitive lotion occasionally and I only use Dove soaps and shampoo/cond. And I use sensitive dish soap 2 mins a day.

Is there a solution to this problem? If so please give me a specific brand or product name so it's easier to find. I don't want to take a pill if possible. Any help will be wonderful, they feel so weak and are unsightly! My nails are peeling so bad (SAHM)?
    Mine are exactly the same.

    Try painting them everyday.

I always have to paint mine every single day. Anytime theres a spot without paint on it, my nail will chip and peel.

My nail always peel wen i apply nail polish sometime. What wrong wif my nail?

Actually this means you lack vitamin E,calcium and protein, don't paint your nails all the time though it will make them weak, the same thing happened to me and it was sooo annoying.Try drinking alot of liquids,8 glasses of water a day and good healthy foods and do all of the above(dont overdose, lol)

Good luck!!My nail always peel wen i apply nail polish sometime. What wrong wif my nail?
So do mine, Maybe we need to take our daily vitamins or something. My nail always peel wen i apply nail polish sometime. What wrong wif my nail?
Nothing is wrong with your nails. Nail polish isn't very healthy for your nails and peeling happens. Nail polish usually leaves your nails brittle and dry. This doesn't mean you cannot colour your nails - but I suggest different brands/kinds of nail polish. Possibly the Sally Hansen Diamond Strength nail polish - great colour and makes your nails stronger!
mine do too, when i want to grow my nails out, everytime i take odd my polish i hold my cands in abowl of lemon juice. Somehow it smooths my nail out and keeps it pretty. But now im lazy and my nails look a mess so i just keep putting polish over my nails to cover up the damage :-S

What causes your nails to peel?

My nails started peeling, just the top thin layer and I was wondering if this was caused by something specific. What causes your nails to peel?
Have you changed the way you eat? Nutrition can affect every part of you from your mood to the way your skin, hair, and nails look. Try taking a good multivitamin. Also if you file your nails the wrong way it can cause them to slit and peel. File them from the corner to the middle on each side and never from corner to corner or from the middle to the corner. After you file brush on a couple of coats of nail strengthener. They make colored polish with strengthener built in. But remember that polish stats to chip and peel away from natural nails in about 2 days. I hope this helps you! What causes your nails to peel?
if you have poor nutrition, like me.

your nails can either peel or be mushy at the end where the nail starts to grow

ie. they go down when you push on the nail.

    eat jelly ;good for nails
There's a product called REJUVACOTE by duri cosmetics, its kinda expensive and I had to order it through my hair dresser, but it made me a believer in just 1 week. I just reapplied it once daily and by the end of the first week i had nails by the second week I was so tickled I went and had my first manicure!!
My nails were the same way and then istarted taking prenatal vitamins (one source you can get them @ walmart) all change my hair, skin and nails are a lot healthier. Its safe even if you are not pregnant, a lot of celebs do this also. Good luck!
Try arcrylic nails, much prettier than your real ones.

You gotta keep the polish on them at all times...

I bit/peeled my thumb nail too far back and it REALLY hurts! Any solutions?

The nail even has little blood spots by the tip where it hurts. What can I do to stop the pain? Ice? Tape? Anything?I bit/peeled my thumb nail too far back and it REALLY hurts! Any solutions?
Put it in warm sea salt water, let it dry and put some of the liquid bandaid stuff from the grocery store on it. It'll be okay in a week or so.I bit/peeled my thumb nail too far back and it REALLY hurts! Any solutions?
    neosporin and a bandaid
    QUIT WHINING AND MAN UP!
band aids til it grows out
tape it really tight! and then wrap it in freezing cold water well in a napkin
AAAGGHHH........ I hate it when that happens................ All you can do it tape a cotton ball on it to protect the tip from being bumped. It will take a week or so but it will get better.

    ~I feel your pain~
Well what i do is i wash it with warm salt water. and then dry it off. and then put bandaid around it. and leave it along. the reason why i used salt water is to clean it out real good. so i won't get ifection

try not to ever do it again.

    My nails are PEELING OFF!?

Recently, my fingernails have been getting worse and worse. The layers of my nails began literally peeling off to the point where I can see through some of the ends of my nails. They are also very brittle and break off easily. But, this morning when I looked at my nails the ends of them that are usually white have turned yellow! What is wrong with my nails? I'm guessing it's some sort of vitamin definciency but I'm not really sure.My nails are PEELING OFF!?
Its definitly because of the vitamin deficiency! I recommend you take a vitamin that helps your nails (and other parts of your body too, if you haven't been taking vitamins.)

I used FutureBiotics Hair, Skin, %26amp; Nails Vitamins which has made a quite a difference on my nails! Now they're long, a natural color, and hard so it can't easily be torn or broken. My nails are PEELING OFF!?
somtimes if you swim alot they get really weak.
Maybe a nail fungus. You need an oral fungicide.
    EWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!
my nail does that to its because i dont take care of it

My nails break off very easily and sometimes they even start peeling in layers, i'm worried...!?

i take calcium supplements daily(for the past 2 months), and now i've started taking biotin supplements too for the past one month. but the problem still persists.. someone plzz help....My nails break off very easily and sometimes they even start peeling in layers, i'm worried...!?
I have exactly the same problem.

I just make sure I wear clear nail polish at all times. However, sometimes I can see little peely bits underneath and temptation draws me to pick at them. So now I always wear a colour on top to block that. %26amp; they grow beautifully! :)

If you don't want to wear nail polish, I can suggest going to a drugstore and buying some nail treatment such as cream or varnish. Prices range from 拢3+. I saw one exactly for this problem in Boots for 拢5.86 (don't remember the name, can't find it on the website, but it was varnish style). They'll be by the makeup brushes, fake nails etc.

Good luck.My nails break off very easily and sometimes they even start peeling in layers, i'm worried...!?
Keep on taking the supplements and try painting on a nail strengthener, like OPI, or Nail inc's Hyde park base coat or Nailtique's protein formula no.2.

They are all good - you paint them on your nails for several days, some for 4 days others for a week and they bond the layers together making them stronger whilst conditioning at the same time. Also rub in a cuticle cream every night. Good luck!
You might just have very thin nails. All my family does. But you can help the breaking and peeling by painting your nails with a clear nail polish. It'll kind of give it an extra layer of thickness.
make sure you're also eating a good amount of protein. that's what your nails are made of, and it won't matter how many supplements you take if you aren't eating right. :)

you are lacking in iron i.e. low blood pressure... i had the same problem as you before. as it gets serious, you can get dizzy spells and even faint. the doc gave me iron tablets and i have recovered.
you dont need products, what you need is calcium. take one tablet a day everyday, ur nails should get better in a few weeks.

Why would my daughters finger nails and toe nails keep coming off, peeling right off.?

She is 4 years old.Why would my daughters finger nails and toe nails keep coming off, peeling right off.?
The nail is important in protecting the sensitive nerve-endings, and this needs to be addressed with a doctor in order to help her develop normally.

    Possible causes:

    1. Fungal infection.

    2. Nervous system disorder.

    3. Nutritional deficiency.

    4. Mineral deficiency.

    5. Genetics.

    6. Compulsive behavior (Tourette's - no, not as in swearing; most people with Tourette's compulsively pick at some part of the body)

    7. Defect in the nailbed or nail matrix.

Start with a pediatrician and have him or her refer you to a good dermatologist. Why would my daughters finger nails and toe nails keep coming off, peeling right off.?
not enough milk drinking ? some kind of calcium deficiency ? are there other problems ? like with hair or teeth ?
Sorry to be the one to suggest it, really, but -- self injury?
Desease... or maybe just very soft nail. You might want to take that up with her Doctor
    Poor nutrition for sure.

Possibly a hygiene realted issue as well.

    HELLO, GO TO A DOCTOR!
It could be a calcium deficiency, or even a fungal infection. I would suggest you take here to the doctor, he can runs test to see what it is. Besides, it can be a symptom of something more serious, not that a calcium deficiency isn't serious, just that there are alot of diseases out there that I don't even know.
well i dont really know but have u gone to the docter and see what he said well if u didnt go to the docters Ok ok
I saw someone ask this question on tv like on a news show and they said it is because you don't get enough protien bc thats what your nails are made of

Well, a simple solution would be to sit on your hands, but I'm sure you've tried this. You could create rewards for yourself, like if you don't do it for a week you go get a manicure, which would also help you stop because you'd want to keep them looking nice.Habit of peeling nails?
well if you've tried covering them just think when you start to peel them think when you begin to peck at them then try as hard as you can to stop...

or do it the old fashioned way and put chilli hot sauce on ur fingertips..good luck with your problem.
Treat yourself to a manicure and your nails will look ultra fabulous. You wouldn't want to wreck that expensive job, right? Whenever you have a sudden impulse to want to peel your nais, admire them for a second and think about how much you'd waste your money. Or have a reward box full of goodies and give yourself one item from the box for every week you don't peel your nails. Good luck and hope this helps!
I dont know if this will help but..

i used to chew my nails and nothing worked at all to make me stop.

So i had fake nails put on and i couldnt bite (or peel) those.

eventually i grew out of the habit because i wasnt able to do it!

now i have natural long girly nails and i love it

    good luck!

i used to do this when i was younger i never bit just peeled. i grew out of it mostly cuz i wanted longer nails so i painted them all the time and it made me want to stop peeling them. dont know if that will work for you...if not try cutting down your thumb nail wayy short so you can't peel the rest of your nails.Habit of PEELING nails?
yah thats just gross, ok u should just not bite them. u say u want to have long nails and painted ones. you can use fake nails and paint them. or you can just paint ur nails and then it will be less tempting to bite them.
i do this all the time especially when im bored lol I find its good to put a coat of clear nail polish on them 2x a week so you cant peel them off as easily....the strengthening nail polish would be good too as they become stronger and aren't prone to breaking
    ....
Erm, try nail hardening nail polish to make it tougher to peel off, there's not much you can do aside from being more conscious about it.
I do that too some times. YOu could try sitting on them or painting them and everytime you want to peel them, look at them a nd think how pretty they look and it will be less tempting.
Eww.. just paint your nails every night and then you'll feel less like peeling them?? and eventually theyll grow to normal size.
I do the same thing!!!! I've done it for years, and i also pick my cuticles. i do it without realizing it when im bored or thinking and its sooo annoying. it looks awful!
OMG i used to have the same habit!! i eventually grew out of it by the time i was 13 becaese i made up my mind i wnated long pretty nails. so i painted my short peeled off nails with nail hardener so it was harder to peel them off. if it was hard to peel them i would suddenly notice i was doing it and stopped. try it!!!!! hope i helped.

You probably don't eat enough vitamins or calcium. Try eating more vegetables and drinking milk. If you don't like either of those things, you can take vitamins to make your nails stronger and not peel.HELP! My nails are peeling?!?

It's because of your health. I suggest you NOT under ANY circumstances use beauty %26amp; cosmetic products to fix it. See your doctor before referring to those.
Put clear nail polish over it.

It'll mend and protect your nails while they're recovering.

    Thin weak peeling nails?

i have pretty thin nails and when they start to grow out they're really bendy and the top layer of my nail always peels off!

even if i have polish on, it just peels right off with it.

can you recommend some products that will prevent this?

i heard sally hansen hard as wraps is really good but i don't want to waste my money if it wont work

I used to have acyrlics for a long time, and I recently decided to get rid of them and they ruined my nails, same problem, weak %26amp; bendy. I used the sally hansen, works SO good! I totally recommend it to you.Thin weak peeling nails?
Take Biotin it helps wonders for nails and hair and is soo cheap!

    I have the same problem!

I used to have the same problem when I got bored I would suddenly find myself with six much shorter nails

What I did was to start filing my nails - I applied Treatment Oil to moisturize my nails and cuticles and a clear nail strengthener to them to help them grow and get stronger (that way it would be harder to peel them) I used Mary Kay but they don't have the 5 step system I used anymore - I've seen it on ebay but would only buy it if it were guarenteed to be unopened.

Gelatin and biotin rich foods will help your nails grow stronger.

For now try to stay busy - read, knit, cook - just anything that requires one or both hands to keep moving so you won't be tempted.Habit of PEELING nails???

Try painting your nails really pretty and when you go to try to peel it, it'll look so pretty that you won't want to touch it!
try wearing nail polish so you cant see the white part, chew gum, always keep your hands occupied even if that means tapping on a desk, playing with your pencil ect.
    get help.
    ewww
    u r sick
omg! i do this too!! well i stopped but what i did was went to walmart and in the nail section there is stuff called no bite (2$?) put it on your nails andit tasts horrible! or you can put nail polish remover, or some really bad hotsauce. whatr i did was file them as far as they can. then i buffed them and they looked good and painted them clear adn just waited. :]
Well, first DO NOT CUT YOURSELF!! That's seriously not a good idea, because the cuts could get easily infected. Your nails carrry a lot of germs. Some of my ideas:

-Wear a bracelet or a ring to give you something else to mess with.

-Wear nail polish, that way when you try to pick at your nails, you only pick the nail polish.

-Try to keep your hands seperate from each other. Like put your hands in your pockets.

This is all I can think of.....Good Luck and I hope I helped =)
You need to strengthen you nails. Try buffing them and then paint them afterwards. This is a good buffer http://www.cleopatraschoice.com/nail-buf鈥?/a>

    Brittle, peeling nails??

When I was little I had always struggled with my nail biting problem. When I was about 11 I finally broke the habit! But now my nails seem more unhealthy then ever. I'll paint my nails and spend a lot of time on them, but then few hours later my nails start peeling super bad again and I'm left with barley any color. Sometimes the top layer peels back all the way to the middle of the nail... it's gross. I've tried almost everything. I've tried putting a clear bottom coat and top coat on, I've tried hard as nails, I've buffed my nails, I have bought almost every cream there is, and I have recently bought a non-acetone nail polish remover but nothing seems to work. It's getting really annoying... what's the problem?Brittle, peeling nails??
You may have a vitamin A, C, or calcium deficiency. Consult your doctor before taking vitamin A though; taking too much of it can damage your liver.

My nails grow out nice and hard, but when I file the sidewalls the nail starts to peel in a couple of days and I'm back to stumps. OPI for peeling nails did not help at all. I use plenty of moisturizers, but if there's a better product let me know. How do you file the sidewalls? Please be more specific than 'file in one direction.'Peeling nails driving me @#@@ crazy?
You don't file the sidewalls of your nail. The only place that needs to be filed is the free edge of the nail. That may be why your nails are peeling...Peeling nails driving me @#@@ crazy?
I agree, don't file them if they peel. You might need to let them grow a bit longer before you can file them. Also, don't use a metal file, but a soft emery board and file from the side to the centre. Never file back and forth. For further help consult the website below :)
you are not even suppose to file the side walls nor front. you have to cut it with the nail clippers. the only time that you file the nail is when you have acrylic nails.

you need to go to a professional nail salon because you do need to file in one direction with real nails professionaly.
how about not filing the sides at all? If that's why they peel, it seems easy enough to solve the problem.

Just above my nails the skin keeps peeling?why is it so and how can i prevent it.It is often very painful?

those are called cuticles and i would suggest you not to peel them. they will grow more quickly. and to get rid off them, you would need cuticle oil. you will get that from any beauty salon.Just above my nails the skin keeps peeling?why is it so and how can i prevent it.It is often very painful?

Do you know of any nail varnish that doesn't chip and peel?

i really want a nail varnish that doesn't chip and peel just after i've put it on. do you know of any?Do you know of any nail varnish that doesn't chip and peel?
opi.. its the most expensive but the best out there.. itll keep your nails strong, helping them to grow faster, and it lasts the longest.. its price is $8-9 a bottle.. but its worth it. if thats wat you want:)Do you know of any nail varnish that doesn't chip and peel?
I have not heard of a non chippable/peeling nail varnish, if you do the following the nail varnish will last; I would suggest you prime the nail first with a barrier nail varnish and it would be advised to spend money on a good colour and not a cheap brand. The application of the nail varnish should not need lots of coats this would cause chipping, a good nail varnish will only need one or perhaps two coats (if really needed..two coats). the nail varnish should not touch the cutical or go down the sides. Nail varnish well applied should last up to two weeks. Good painting!
The Rimmel Vinyl ones are fairly good. I can usually use them for 3 days before there starts to be chips and peels. Like somebody else has suggested, OPI are really good BUT are pricey. I've managed to wear OPI polishes for 6 - 7 days before chips or peels begin to set in.

However, your best bet is not the type of nail varnish you use but how you look after your hands once it is on (e.g. wear gloves when washing dishes, apply one or two thin coats of a thin top coat after the nail varnish is dry, don't use your nails as 'tools') even though that's easier said than done!
All nail varnish will chip off, but good brands won't do it as fast. The best i have found is either rimmel or avon brands about 5 days for both. They last longer on your toes as you're not manually working with your feet. Your hands rooting through your handbag are likely to chip your nail polish and also it can come off if you've got to handwash dishes.
I've yet to find one that lasts more than 2 days!!!

I use a base coat and a clear top coat so that helps a little bit.

I wouldn't bother buying more expensive ones either as the worse nail varnish that I have is a designer 1.
Either put a coat of clear varnish over the top or you're going to have to pay a bit more money. The best nail varnish I've ever used is Chanel. You get what you pay for.
Bourjois...easy application nd good staying power

    not the most pricey either

    good luck!!
Rimmel. i love it. And it lasts for up to 10 days :) :) Good Luck

Invest in more expensive nail polishes, the better quality ones won't peel like that.I have a nail polish problem. i loemy nails painted but i peel off the paint. i want to get rid of that habbit
coat them thickly with some clear polish. Or you can just not paint your nails until you get over this problem. Just paint your nails with clear and if you still see yourself doing it then don't do color..Kind of like a negative punishment..I had to do that kind of thing to stop biting my nails.
Get a clear coat over that coat, and then it'll be nice and smooth, then it'll be harder to peel off, for sure.

I have that habbit too, This is what my nail artist told me.

    GOod luck!

    Peeling Nails??

I have always bitten my nails until about 3 years ago. (I'm 24). They are long and very strong. Until about 2 weeks ago. They are peeling like an onion. Not splitting down the nail, but rather flaking right at the longest point. This is frustrating b/c the used to be beautiful and now I have to cut them back so they stop. Any suggestions on what it could be? I would like this problem to stop ASAP. I do type a lot at work. Maybe this has something to do with it. Educated answers only please.Peeling Nails??
It may be due to improper filing of the nail. Make sure when you file the nail you go in one direction. Start with the roughest side of the emery board and then finish off (still in the same direction) with the finer side. Finish off with a good polish. You may want to try Nailtiques formula 2. I used this when I had my acrylic nails removed. Put a coat on each day for 7 days. Then remove and start again for another 7 - and so on. It sure helped my nails.

Since you do a lot of typing, keep your nails at a medium to shorter length.

I doubt that it is a nail fungus as the fungus lodges in the bed of the nail and not on the tip.Peeling Nails??
Eat right. Take vitamins. Use a good lotion. Don't use nail clippers. Use an emery board but file in one direction only. Keep polish off for a while to let your nails breathe.
Flaking of this type is an indication that you have a nail fungus that can only be treated with a prescribed anti-fungal medication. I'm sure you've seen the commercial with the little gremlin-like fungi living in and under your nails, well, that's what you have and the faster you treat it the better!

    Peeling Nails?

In the past one or two months my nails have begun peeling like crazy and I don't know why. My diet hasn't really changed in the past year, and my other habits are pretty much the same too. I've tried using strengthener and hardener, but nothing seems to work and they keep peeling.

This has never happened to me before ... what can I do so they stop peeling?Peeling Nails?
Your nails peels because they are lacking moisture and are dry.....like our skin does (dry and flaky) You need to start using a cuticle oil. Yes it's good for the cuticles, but your nails also love it. The nail is very porous, and they will drink it up....which in turn should stop the peeling. I have been doing nails for 10 years and always recommend the same to my clients! Good luckPeeling Nails?
Same thing happened to me for about 6 months, then they just got better. I know how frustrating it was.

I later learned.. it had something to do with circulation of your blood. Doctors found I had high blood pressure.
Invest in a good hand cream, have you been stressed lately? this could have something to dowith it.Plus if you drink alchohol that can contribute.
VITAMINS! Take a multivitamin and a ';hair skin and nails'; supplement. all can be bought at walmart. :) good luck! i used ot have the same problem!
i dont know but the same thing has been happening to me!-at leats i think so if i have the right idea of what peeling is-
PROTEIN IS THE KEY to strong beautiful nails. Try eating protein in every mean. This means, chicken, meat etc.

Help!! My nails keep peeling lately.Could it be a different polish?I need some help...Peeling nails?
Too much polish and acetone (nail polish remover) can damage your nails and make them peel and split. If you leave them be for a while, they should grow back fine. Also, try massaging a little olive oil into your finger nails every day to help keep them moisturized.Peeling nails?
    I would seek proessional help

you may have baterial or fungal problem
stop using polish and other products on ur nails! you can use calcium builder if you want though, helps a lot! when the nails start peeling they need nurishment, try having healthier food like more veggies with lots of iron in it, and cheese, milk and other dairy products for calcium, dont forget the little lima beans they have lots of calcium too! have lots of jello that helps too.

and try to clip ur nails right now, so they dont keep chipping and when u file them only do it in one direction and not in both *****(if you dont understand this part email me)**** also, if u dont have calcium builder polish u have to put some hand cream or vaseline on ur nails at night! this is to rehidrate ur nails cause that also can be a reason why ur nails break!

    good luck!
It's possibly a fungal infection of some kind, or an allergy. It's also possible that your nails and skin are dry...climate reasons. My nails peeled terribly when we lived in the Midwest, but now we're in the Southeast where it's more humid...they look great!

    Peeling nails?!?

My toe nails (my finger nails used to) peel like crazy! I dont know why and they say to cut them back and I do! But then the peeling gets too out of hand and it gets too far so I cant cut them. The nail itself is on its last layer and it is SO close to the skin! What do I do? Is it because I have been leaving on my nail polish too long? Or that I need more calcium?Peeling nails?!?
I have that problem with my finger nails, too. Except it doesn't get that dramatic. I've never thought about the nail polish thing. I started wearing more nail polish lately. Try getting more calcium AND don't wear nail polish all the time.Peeling nails?!?
It's cuz you need more calcium. i just paint my nails and so that doesn't happen.
