Simple, but hard work: It just takes constant willpower to stop picking at your nails. You need to be aware of each time that you feel like picking at your nails, and figure out in that situation something else you can do instead. For example, each time that you feel like picking at your nails, take out a nail file and just gently smooth the edge of the nail, and the urge will pass. Also, make sure you are using hand lotion after each time you wash your hands, which will keep your hands and nails moisturized. You should generally keep your nail edges filed smooth, so that there are no little bits that are tempting to start to pick, and there are no rough parts that will snag on things or break off. After a couple of days you will start to see the difference in the health of your nails, and then you just have to keep at it every day. After about 2 months of not picking at your nails, that actually becomes your new habit, and you just have to stay on top of those situations where you want to go back to the comfort of the habit of picking and keep dealing with it.Habit of peeling nails?
it's stress

get rid of the stress. learn to handle it better or differently

watch when you're in a stressed out situation

catch yourself and stop it

don't get upset that your doing it again, just quietly stop it.

keep catching yourself till you've stop for good
my sis used to do that and finally was able to stop. My only idea is to put on fake nails so you can't pull them. Or maybe you could use something to make your nails stronger so it's harder to pull your nails and you can realize what your doing before you do it. Or when you are in a situation where you would pull your nails, you can keep you hands around from each other. Good luck!
I had the same habit for almost 20 years. I finally stopped by wearing band-aids on my thumbs. The root of the problem is the thumbs. If the thumbs are not able to tear the other nails then the problem is stopped. Works perfectly.
My sister does that, she is still able to paint her nails!

1. If you do it with your thumbs, I'm thinking you could have them short. You don't have to bite them, just make them short enough so you can't peel the nail off other fingers. If you start peeling with different fingers, you could cut them all down. I get that it's nice to have long nails but you can still paint shorter nails. When you feel you don't want to peel them anymore, you can grow them long again!

2. If you don't want to shorten your nails, paint them and it will get seriously annoying when you have to keep touching them up due to peeling part of the nail off.

3. My sister paints her nails with this clear stuff that hardens the nail and makes it harder to peel them. Go to a chemist and ask about it, it's not hard to find. You can put coloured polish over the top of it.
