Flaky, peeling finger nails? help?

it seems that when my nails get to be a certain length they start to flake and peel in layers until their so thin that they break easily. any one know why this is and what i can do to prevent them from flaking?Flaky, peeling finger nails? help?
I think it's a vitamin deficiency or low thyroid count or

put this nail polish on them that says streagthens enamal. its not really a nail polish just a strengthener
