What causes your finger nail's to peel?

My finger nails are peeling at the part that is grown out. The very first layer is coming off. What causes your finger nail's to peel?
two things, your nails are too dry, and you don't consume enough calcium. You can get nail oil to moisturize your nails, but you need to ingest more calcium rich vegetables or take a calcium supplement with vitamin D for absorption. What causes your finger nail's to peel?
Mine do that too, SO annoying! From what I understand, it's from a lack of calcium, so take calcium pills or have plenty of milk and cheese (the pills aren't as fattening, hahaha). And there are nail polishes that go on clear that strengthen your nails, I know Cutex makes a good one. :)
Maybe low calcium...but buy a nailpolish they sell at Sally's that has garlic on it...if not just put garlic on any transparent nail polish it will help to grow ur nails u can also put vaseline on your cuticles!
