Why does my nail polish peel every time I take a shower?

My nail polish won't stay on in the shower. I used to use cheap brands like Maybelline, CoverGirl, Revlon, etc. It would peel away the minute I got in the shower. Now I try expensive brands like Opi, Essie, and Orly, It still peels in the shower, but not quite as much. I've tried everything including a highly rated rubberized base coat called Bonder by Orly. I also use a top coat. Here's what I do: I paint one coat of base coat, then two coats of polish, then one coat of top coat. I've also tried using rubber gloves in the shower. But it still peels. Does any body have any suggestions? Why does my nail polish peel every time I take a shower?
I have the same problem. NEVER FILE YOUR NAILS ON TOP! Files are for the edges of your nails, to slim them down and shape them. Never use metal ones, either.

What you need is a buffer. BUFF the tops of your nails before you paint them, and then make sure not to lay it on too thick. Its because you have oily nail beds...don't be sad about it. Our nails look shiny even when we don't have polish on :D

Try your same regimen, and if it doesnt work, then skip the basecoat. gl!Why does my nail polish peel every time I take a shower?
Try only one coat of color, it may be too thick and not drying completely which can cause it to peel. Make sure you let it dry completely between coats.
Hi!!!! I've had the same problem, especially after swimming or being in the water for long amounts of time!! What happens is the water gets under the polish after being submerged for long amounts (or sometimes even short amounts) of time. I have found if you smooth on white vinegar before painting your nails this helps some. Also, putting on more top coats does NOT help, it actually tends to make it worse. The main this is really just to wait the LONGEST possible time before you get your nails even the slightest bit wet. Do it at a time when you know you won't have to wash your hands or take a shower any time soon. This gives the polish time to really dry onto your actual nail bed, so there will be a smaller opportunity for water to penetrate under the polish!! Hope I've helped, and good luck!!

Try to put on more layers. and then use a clear top coat on. or after you get done with your nail polish wait ten minutes for doing anything
the nail polish is not water proof
put a nail file to your nails it makes little groves the the nail polish gets stuck in goodluck
If you are using that many coats and your polish is still peeling, you should take hort, luke warm showers, because the hotter the water is, the more your polish will be fading.
your nails have natural oils in them and when it mixes with the water and soap it chips and peel the nail polish.

Solution: buy a nail buffer and buffer your nails before you polish and then use a high gloss top coat. and apply it every two days it will make the polish last longer.
I am a nail tech. Here's your mistake. You are not wiping the oil off you nails before you put on the polish. Before you polish, wipe your nails with a cotton ball soaked with either nail polish remover, or alcohol.Do not touch anything, and then put on two base coats, two coats of color, and two top coats.Be sure your nails are dry before you shower. You can speed up the drying process by putting your fingers in ice water.
Maybe try 2 layers of top coat??
even if you use the cheaper brands you have to put a base clear coat on to protect your nails and then 2 coats of the color and then 1-2 coats of clear topcoat. that should last a couple days b4 peeling and if you apply a topcoat every day or so it should last longer.
because your a slippery mermaid, your legs and feet arent the real thing, when you come in contact with water, you become like a fish gaining the ability to move through water like a hot hot hot knife through warm butter..
If it peels put a extra cote on it.
its not u......it happens to me all the time..........
if you want your nail polish to last longer take a cotton ball and dip it in some white vinegar and put it over your nails BEFORE you put the nail polish and you'll notice that it lasts much longer...this also works if you want to paint your porch or something lol..also..after the coat dries put a very thin layer of clear nail polish..this will add a little shine and at the same time it will seal it GOOD LUCK!
because warm water soften your nails, when its soft you unintentionaly bend it or scratched it, therefore the paint comes off easily.
when u are in the shower/bath ur nails get softer which causes the nail polish to come of..i would try 2 top coats see if that helps.. o and make sure ur nails are like completly dry and dont let them get wet for a like an hour after u pain them so the nail polish can settle with ur finger nails, like the groves and stuff in them.. also try to file ur fingernails like on top of the nails so it cause they nails to get groves in them which will help the finger nail polish to stick better.. GOOD LUCK
some people have oily nail beds. ur probably one . sorry
